Bluetooth: Not Available

    I can't offer any fix-it advice but a restart. My system seems to have inexplicably reset itself after a reboot.

    hhamburger, I have exactly the same problem and it's basically made my macbook useless as I mostly want to use it in clamshell mode attached to an external monitor with BT keyboard and mouse. What response have you had from apple support? Any idea how much it might cost to replace the BT module (I'm assuming it's a hardware problem).

    Having the same problem since two weeks. Maybe one of the last updates makes the problem. Couldn't find any other solution on support page or web than to reset the PRAM. But since today the icon for bluetooth disappeared completely. Get's time somebody from Apple tells us a solution.

    I have the same problem, even after I have upgraded to 10.5.6. Very frustrating.

    Can't add much except that my nearly 1 year old MB intermittently lost its connection with 2 different Logitech BT mice about maybe 20% of the time when coming out of sleep mode. When it happened the only 100% way to reconnect was to reboot the system.

    About 2 months ago I gave up on Logitech and bought a Mighty Mouse which so far seems to work 100% of time when coming out of sleep mode.

    Don't know if it will help or not, but I have the box checked in Mouse Preferences that says "allow BT devices to wake this computer".

    Put me on the list. A one year old MacBook, 120 GB hard drive, 2 GB RAM, and a very opinionated Bluetooth device. Works, then doesn't work. I've wiped the drive completely clean twice, reinstalled, gone through all the system updates, frequently reset the PRAM, done the Indian Voodoo dance, and there is simply no consistency. Very, very frustrating. Tomorrow (Dec. 27), I have an 8 a.m. appointment with the Apple Store in Madison, Wis. I will relay what I find out.

    Thank you to hhambergerjung for the great job posting. I, like you, have been trying to find an answer to this. I've seriously considered entering counseling with the MacBook for the love-hate relationship I've developed.

    Would you like to share complete frustration?

    So, failing to find a solution to this problem on the Apple discussions board, I started searching the Internet for other input. My search led me to "MacFixIt," a CNET site that offers remedies.

    AND, I found a discussion topic on Bluetooth issues on MacBook computers.

    Here's the kicker: You have to subscribe to the site to get the solution! I need to pay for a newsletter on Mac repair articles to confirm that this is a problem.

    Scheduled for a visit to the Mac store this morning, but the weather here is terrible. I'll be rescheduling.

    I just bought the 24" imac yesterday, was using eyetv... I had already installed xp on a 101gb partition and was running it trying to get the freaking bluetooth aluminum keyboard to work. I got the mouse working on xp/bootcamp but no keyboard...great for clicking around. Seriously, after doing an apple software update on xp I couldn't get xp to recognize any bluetooth devices. After several reboots in xp I became frustrated (having googled for updated drivers, etc...) so I rebooted in osx. Now no bluetooth in osx. I disconnected my usb devices (an apple keyboard, apple mouse, and eyetv 250 Plus QAM) and rebooted osx. No success. Still showed "bluetooth not available". Seriously Apple, you made me want to cry and I'm a grown man. Then I shut the computer down and unplugged the power wire from the back of the imac and left it there for several minutes. Now I rebooted osx and bluetooth is up and running and here I am typing.

    Apple it's no fun to run around doing this crapola. I'd rather have fun with my computer rather than entertain myself with mindless troubleshooting!!! And please find a fix for bootcamp xp with your newest bluetooth sleek yet inoperable aluminum keyboard and the wireless mighty mouse. I've searched all threads on this subject (xp with newest apple bluetooth devices) and the verdict as of yet is no solution!

    Took my MacBook to the Genius bar, after making an appointment from home.

    An inspection revealed that the case had been cracked, which was a complete surprise. I have a plastic cover for the computer, and I treat it with more respect than the revered family pet.

    After experiencing the same inconsistent Bluetooth performance logged here and in my earlier posts, Apple took the computer for a few days and replaced the case. They then "reseated" the Bluetooth chip and antenna, and it's been working just great. I take the computer back and forth from work to home, and use two separate sets of wireless, Bluetooth, mice and keyboards. Both are working great.

    Prior to having the Bluetooth reseated, I was getting "Bluetooth Not Available" on an intermittent basis. When I took it in, first we reset the PRAM three times, then we took out the battery and held down the start button to the count of ten, and still, the System Profile failed to recognize the Bluetooth.

    I share your frustration, honest. My suggestion would be to take the computer into Apple, have them open the case and check the Bluetooth connection to the board.
