    I only wanted to add a "me too". All symptoms described apply to me also ie. will not wake from sleep, FW devices connected. This is logged in the System log, it appears the FW bus is resetting itself repeatedly:

    Jan 28 21:41:49 Wasti kernel[0]: AppleFWOHCI_AsyncTransmit::waitForDMA - context not going inactive.
    Jan 28 22:00:49 Wasti kernel[0]: FireWire (OHCI) Lucent ID 5901 built-in: 52 bus resets in last 3 minute.

    Jan 28 22:11:24 Wasti kernel[0]: AppleFWOHCI_AsyncTransmit::waitForDMA - context not going inactive.
    Jan 28 22:12:15 Wasti kernel[0]: FireWire (OHCI) Lucent ID 5901 built-in: 52 bus resets in last 3 minute.
    Jan 28 22:15:06 Wasti kernel[0]: AppleFWOHCI_AsyncTransmit::waitForDMA - context not going inactive.
    Jan 28 22:42:47 Wasti kernel[0]: AppleFWOHCI_AsyncTransmit::waitForDMA - context not going inactive.
    Jan 28 22:42:47 Wasti kernel[0]: State change timeout, state is 7

    Jan 28 22:42:47 Wasti kernel[0]: AppleFWOHCI_AsyncTransmit::waitForDMA - context not going inactive.
    Jan 28 22:42:47 Wasti kernel[0]: AppleFWOHCI_AsyncReceive::waitForDMA - context not going inactive.
    Jan 28 22:42:47 Wasti kernel[0]: AppleFWOHCI_AsyncTransmit::waitForDMA - context not going inactive.
    Jan 28 22:42:47 Wasti kernel[0]: AppleFWOHCI_AsyncReceive::waitForDMA - context not going inactive.
    Jan 28 22:42:47 Wasti kernel[0]: AppleFWOHCI_AsyncTransmit::waitForDMA - context not going inactive.
    Jan 28 22:42:47 Wasti kernel[0]: AppleFWOHCI_AsyncReceive::waitForDMA - context not going inactive.
    (etc...)

    From the "State change" entry the log is then filled with these "context not going inactive" entry pairs, around 10/sec.

    Apparently, the unplugging only works temporarially. I tried the Combo update too, only temporary. I'm checking permissions, seems to be some issues so maybe a repair might fix that. Any info about the bug report or other solutions?

    I have exactly the same issue. A 2.4Ghz Alu iMac running 10.5.6, it sometimes locks up on either a grey or blue screen during booting, or it's favourite is to lock up at the login screen. I've also reinstalled the OS using Archive and Install, and the machine was cured, even with the 10.5.6 update. But the problem has come back, I thought it was after reinstalling Mouse/Printer/EyeTV drivers, but it must be this Firewire issue because I've noticed the same message in my log:

    Mar 23 22:46:54 Macintosh kernel[0]: AppleFWOHCI_AsyncTransmit::waitForDMA - context not going inactive.

    This has caused me no end of problems, 10.5.7 had better fix it Apple!

    What was the outcome of the bug report #6505047, which you logged with Apple?

    Did they offer a solution?

    My iMac (Mid 2007) also has this random finder freeze which always occurs every time I'm away from the computer & the screensaver is operating. The mouse and keyboard become locked out and the only way to recover control is to power the iMac down and then restart.

    This problem started after I upgraded MAC OS X to 10.5.6

    Does anyone else in this thread, or reading it, have the answer?

    10.5.7 doesn't fix it for me:

    14.05.09 16:59:59 kernel AppleFWOHCI_AsyncTransmit::waitForDMA - context not going inactive.
    14.05.09 16:59:59 kernel AppleFWOHCI_AsyncReceive::waitForDMA - context not going inactive.
    14.05.09 16:59:59 kernel AppleFWOHCI_AsyncTransmit::waitForDMA - context not going inactive.
    14.05.09 16:59:59 kernel AppleFWOHCI_AsyncReceive::waitForDMA - context not going inactive.
    14.05.09 16:59:59 kernel AppleFWOHCI_AsyncTransmit::waitForDMA - context not going inactive.
    14.05.09 16:59:59 kernel AppleFWOHCI_AsyncReceive::waitForDMA - context not going inactive.
    14.05.09 16:59:59 kernel AppleFWOHCI_AsyncTransmit::waitForDMA - context not going inactive.
    14.05.09 16:59:59 kernel AppleFWOHCI_AsyncReceive::waitForDMA - context not going inactive.

    I switch my Mac to sleep mode manually, it only work 40%. Most of the time the Mac isn't going
    to sleep and hangs.

    I have one device connected to the FireWire-port, but switched off:
