iTunes 8.0 crashes everytime I try to sync

Everytime I plug my iPod Classic (160gb) in now, iTunes decides it wants to die. I can't sync anything. Any help?

    I'm having the same problem. I have tried to uninstall iTunes 8 and reinstalled but I'm still having the same problem. It is even crashing when I try to play songs created on a Genius playlist. Is this a Vista issue?

    Same here: my 80 G Video iPod (Software version 1.3) won't sync at all. That is, It starts syncing and within seconds the dreaded spinning ball appears. After that, I can only force quite iTunes. The iPod IS recognized, and I CAN adjust settings. But it simply won't sync. So far, I have had no problem syncing my iPhone. I've repaired permissions, cleaned caches, etc. etc., the works. I've re-apllied the 10.5.5. Combo Update, re-installed iTunes 8 and as a last resort even resetted my iPod, all to no avail. Now what? Any fresh ideas? I've seen many similar complaints but, unfortunately, few answers so far.

    I've been having the same problem with my iPod 5g, and after completely uninstalling iTunes (to the point of removing the receipts from /Library/Receipts/) and reinstalling, I figured out what's causing the problem: syncing photos. I'm still working on getting the photo's synced, but until then, try stopping the iPod sync the moment it starts to try, and remove the check from sync photos to iPod. Try sync-ing then.

    Has anyone found the reason why 8.0 crashes? I saw one article to remove the iTunes Library Genius.itdb file from your iTunes. But this did not work for me. Also, this might relate to Macs only, as I have a PC. Where are those two dudes when you need them??

    I haven't tried this with anything other than my iTouch, but it can't hurt to try....(this happened at an Apple store Genius bar tonight, and it totally worked)

    1) Restore the iPod
    2) WITH THE UNIT PLUGGED IN....
    a) deauthorize
    b) re-authorize (both are on iTunes under "Store" tab)
    3) "buy" a free song
    4) enjoy

    That's it! I'd wiped out all of the music on my iTouch during a restore process last night, and after the brilliant guy at Apple worked with me I got it all back (nothing had been wiped off my iTunes). He said my computer was thinking it was authorized properly, but with all of the changes going on right now it wasn't anymore.

    Hey, thanks for the input. I followed your instructions to a "T" but was not successful. iTunes keeps crashing when I try to sync. I did reload an older version of iTunes 7.0 over the weekend and I did not have the problems of crashing. I then upgraded and it worked for sometime, but was only able to sync two of my 3 iPods. I think this issue now lies with iTunes 8.0 and something to do with a not so Genius "Genius Bar". I am still waiting for help! Thanks!

    OK dude, I made sure I followed to the "t" again and followed your steps. It is now allowing me to Sync! The point being, I needed to play the new song and authorize it on my computer again. This allowed me to drop songs into my iPod now! I will now try an auto sync to see if it takes it accross the board. Regardless, you are the Bomb! Thanks!

    I think we will have to wait until Apple fixes this... I haven't found a work around yet.

    I am experiencing a crash every time my iPhone applications synch. I did a total restore of my phone, no luck. I deleted and recreated my iTunes library. No luck. I de-authorized and authorized my Mac. no luck.

    I can at least synch music, but I've had to temporarily uninstall all my apps. I'm on iTunes 8.02 and iPhone 2.2.1

    After you deauthorize and reauthorize your account, you MUST down load a free song - ya the one they just came out with. Let it down load. Then click on your iTunes new song to play it once and it should ask you to authorize the song to play on your computer. Once this is done, try to sync or manually drop songs into your device. I failed to play the song after the down load the first time and it continued to crash. Once I authorized the song to play, unbelievably it worked. Not sure about the DRM issue, but I seem to be pluging away for the time being on my iPod (sorry no iPhone). Give it a try.

    Well, this is like iTunes cancer.

    I couldn't even connect the ipod and hit "restore" without a crash. De-authorizing the connecting the iPod DID allow me to restore my iPod, at least. It appears to be synching now.

    My iPhone can sync music now, but if I try to sync apps it still blows up.

    Sorry to hear. Ya, there is a long string of issues going on out there that people are having problems. I did a complete auto sync during the evening and everything worked just fine. I guess my persistence was kept looking at all the strings of issues and this deauthorization and reauthorization kept coming up as a fix. Good luck and let's hope Apple has a fix for you guys quickly.

    It's tied to Apple TV, too. I have two of those and THEY also had to be restored and reloaded. Somehow iTunes seems to have corrupted every attached device. The ATV symptom was 24-hour downloads to watch a rented movie. Now it's back to 3-4 minutes before I can watch.
