My problems has not occurred since the update. Also now I'm hooked up to the new LED ACD 24". However the problem didnt show on my third-party Samsung either.

Guessing some chips are affected. I would just bring it in as it seems to be random who got it or not and also depending on which third-party screen that is used.

Just started to notice this issue as well. Except I've had my new MBP for about a month.
I just saw these single snowy/fuzzy lines flicker every now and then up and down the screen.

The screen corner/sleep display trick worked for me.

I've also noticed occasionally some "flutter" where a window on the screen kinda flutters in opacity.
It was happening with quicklook. hitting space repeatly to toggle quicklook would make the window appear and it'd flutter everytime. Also happened with normal windows.

Well it does seem to have permanently gone away - might be the upgrade but I also switched to the 9600 graphics processor!

Glad to know I'm not going mad!

    I've been using a minty fresh 2009 MacBook with a DVI connected HPw2007 display and noticed three (what I suspect are related) problems;
    - some minor noise especially when displaying photos with a large amount of black background
    - display blanking every 5-10 seconds (appears related to recovering after the laptop wakes from sleep)
    - (occasional and spontaneous) display of snow (think old school TV style snow)

Reading the thread below it still appears to be an open sore, has anyone made any progress with Apple?

I have a new iMac (Early 2009) with a Mini DisplayPort adapter connected to an external Samsung SyncMaster 2433BW 24" LCD screen. As others have reported, I am experiencing the issue of "snow"/"static" appearing on the external screen when the screen wakes from sleep. The workarounds described in this thread have worked, but it's annoying. Anyone know if this issue will be corrected in Mac OS X 10.5.7?

I wanted to chime in with some new info. I have a late 2008 MBP (2.8GHx, 4GB) with a 23" Cinema Display. I have had this wake-from-sleep fuzzy display issue since I bought my MBP. It happens to me about once a week. I have tried just about everything. Neither of the display firmware updates changed anything. Just unplugging the mini-DVI adapter and plugging it back in again use to resolve the issue. If I do that now my MBP locks up solid. It does not appear that there is any real fix out there.....

I have the Apple DVI (non-dual link) adapter with a Dell 20" with VGA, DVI, S-video, and composite inputs.

When I switch from the DVI to VGA for like 5 mins & then switch back to DVI, it's snowy for about 1-5 secs. Screen comes back & is fine. Color is OK, resolution is fine.

http://www.monoprice.com is selling the adapters now: VGA, DVI, & HDMI.

I also can't get my new Macbook Pro 2.4GHz Unibody to work on my Dell 24" screen...

When connected it shows up on the Displays Preference Pane and on the System Profile as DELL2408WFP 1920 x 1200 @ 60Hz. But the dell screen appears black with the 'Entering Power Save Mode' warning. It only works if i lower the resolution to 800x600@75Hz or put the VGA adapter.

    So here are my findings:

I have 3 computers at home and one 24" LCD:
    1. Old Macbook Pro 3,1 2.2GHz with NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT and DVI connection
    2. New Macbook Pro 5,1 2.4GHz Unibody with NVIDIA GeForce 9400M / 9600M GT and the Mini Display Port connection.
    3. Mac Mini 1,1 Core Duo 1.66GHz with Intel GMA 950 64MB and a DVI connection.
    4. Dell UltraSharp 2408WFP rev A01 (Refurbished) - 24" with VGA and DVI-D connections and optimal resolution: 1920 x 1200 @ 60Hz

    What works and what doesn't:

    A. WORKS: Old MBP with DVI cable: 1920 x 1200 @ 60Hz
    B. WORKS: New MBP with Mini Display Port to VGA adapter: 1920 x 1200 @ 60Hz
    C. *DOESN'T: New MBP with Mini Display Port to DVI adapter: 1920 x 1200 @ 60Hz*
    D. WORKS: New MBP with Mini Display Port to DVI adapter: 800 x 600 @ 75Hz ???
    E. *DOENS'T: Mac Mini with DVI cable: 1920 x 1200 @ 60Hz*
    F. WORKS: Mac Mini with DVI to VGA adapter and VGA cable: 1920 x 1200 @ 60Hz

And on the new MBP, i've tried using both graphics card (changed to Better Performance on the Energy Saver).

And i can't get the Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter firmware update to work, it doesn't 'find' it (http://support.apple.com/kb/dl799).

    Any ideas?

    Update #1

Went to one of the local Apple Stores over the weekend and told them about this issue. We were able to duplicate the problem in the store. We swapped DVI adapters and had the same issue, so we ruled that out as a possible cause. The guy that was helping me noted my case and suggested that I have the motherboard replaced. I would do that, but I can't be without my MBP, so I need to dig up a loaner for a few days, but I will send it in. More to follow...

This is just for the VGA adapter, not the DVI adapter.

    UPDATE:

I made some tests with a Genius on a Apple Store with my MBP 2.4GHz:

    A. MiniDisplayPort to DVI adapter only works on Apple Displays (tested on Acer, Dell and Apple).
    B. MDP to VGA adapter works fine on non-Apple Displays

And they seem aware of this, so its not a Logic board issue.

So i'm probably selling my Dell 2408WFP to buy the 24" Apple one.

Before you go thru that, would you be willing to try the adapter from monoprice.com?

that's not right, you should be able to use any screen you want!

I haven't had that much trouble with my Dell 20" as the picture does seem to come in OK after a couple secs.

Hi kmac1036, my adapters (VGA & DVI) are from monoprice.com.
And they worked fine on apple display (22" i think).

I bought a new Mac Mini (09) and its working fine via the mini-DVI to DVI.

Anyway, i decided not to buy the 24" Apple since its also having many 'color problems':

so the Apple adapters are doing the same thing?

i've used both apple MiniDisplayPort to: DVI and VGA adapters at the apple store, and its the same issue as the monoprice adapters:

    VGA: it works at 1920x1200
DVI: doesn't work at 1920x1200 (only at 800x600@75Hz).
