Mar 26, 2009 6:22 PM in response to 9 ironby Diane Wordsmith,Common culprits are third-party apps or widgets attempting to talk to iTunes. This includes the iTunes Dashboard widget. Disable any such items and see if the behavior stops. -
Apr 17, 2009 10:47 PM in response to Diane Wordsmithby burntground,Hi. I have the same problem. Today iTunes has opened itself dozens of times. Each time I close it, it launches again in a matter of minutes. I actually don't use iTunes very much - it annoys me generally and more so that it now opens every few minutes, slowing down my work. I have had to trash it to get some peace. I do occasionally use it so I would like to fix the issue. I do not have any plug-ins whatsoever in my iTunes library and I only have the usual Mac widgets, which I also don't use.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks -

Apr 17, 2009 11:14 PM in response to Diane Wordsmithby burntground,Well I think I just about have never used that dashboard app., apart from the unit converter which I remember using a couple times.
Thank you Diane, so far so good. iTunes has been humbled thus far. Marginally better than trashing iT. Bizarre that it only just started doing that? Must be ver 8.1.1.
cheers

Jul 3, 2009 7:43 PM in response to roquetteby Michael Mancuso,I have the same problem only I use Vista Ultimate 64 bit. Task Manager will show iTunes.exe start all by itself, on each of my three user accounts. I THINK it happens when someone opens iTunes but I don't know for sure. Obviously, I have no widgets. Help? -

Apr 27, 2010 5:36 AM in response to 9 ironby Scorpio_1989,Hi,
I bought a new core i5 macbook pro a couple of days ago and started getting this problem about 2 hours ago and didn't know what was happening. Everything was disabled, including taking the battery from the remote out, yet itunes was still starting up.
I just found something but not sure if it's the cause of the problem. My audio cable was not connected properly and when i moved it, itunes would start up again, and kept moving it and kept starting up, and while open, i would move it again and it would play songs. I disconnected it and plugged it back in, tried moving it and it would not start itunes. I think this has to do with the port supporting the apple earphones with remote on them. Lets hope this fixes it and if so, hope it helps others.

Oct 15, 2011 6:26 PM in response to 9 ironby Manishearth,If its iTunes 10.5, and your iDevices are iOS 5, then iTunes will open up every time if you have "Open iTunes when this iPad is connected" ticked in the iDevice sync settings. (Because of wifi sync) Uncheck that box and you should be fine.

Oct 16, 2011 8:59 PM in response to 9 ironby Timgeldard95,It's because you have wifi sinc on something. When the iPhone/iPod/iPad is connected simply uncheck the "turn on iTunes when iPhone/iPod/iPad is connected" and it should stop opening.
