Q: Top memory slot is not working.
Maybe some one in this forum can resolve this, I need a genius here!
I think I have a problem with one of the RAM slots in my Mac Book Pro purchased in mid July 2007. I also purchased apple care as well. I think it lasts 3 years?
What led me to this conclusion was I just purchased a 4GB memory stick of ram recently, this month, to replace the 1gb stick of ram I had in there that is installed in slot, 0, which is the bottom slot closest to the motherboard and works great.
However, after trying putting sticks only in the top slot "the one that hovers above the bottom slot", slot 1, I tried both my old 1gb stick of ram and even the new 4gb of ram in that slot and it chooses not to boot up the computer, with both configurations.
Ive tried configurations where I have ran both 1gb in the bottom slot, and 1gb on the top, "total of 2gb" and that doesn't boot up the computer.
When I first got the computer I had it for about 5 months where it had worked with that configuration of having 2 slots filled with each 1gb stick of ram , total of 2gb ram. But then all of a sudden STOPPED working.
Which brings me to the conclusion of having a bad top RAM SLOT.
Is it possible for MAC to fix this for me or is this a software problem? And what would be involved, they replace the RAMSLOT? or the whole motherboard?
Please let me know what I can do, and your thoughts why the RAM may not be working. These aren't faulty chips obviously, it has to be the top ram slot not functioning for some reason.
