Quote "If you’re using a relatively new Mac, specifically one with a Mini DisplayPort connector, and trying to play iTunes Store HD movies through any external monitor other than Apple’s recently-released 24" LED Cinema Display, you’re most likely out of luck. Click on the video and iTunes will give you an error message: “This movie cannot be played because a display that is not authorized to play protected movies is connected. Try disconnecting any displays that are not HDCP authorized.”........
The reasons for this error message are simple: Apple has started to support HDCP, “high-bandwidth digital content protection,” an Intel-developed way to stop high-definition videos from being played on older, less secure receiving devices."G5 PowerMac 1.8 DP, Black MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5), 30GB iPod 5G, 80 GB iPod Classic, 2nd Generation iPod shuffle

Still somehow the paying customers suffer with the ridiculous measures that music, movie and software publishers take to "secure" their copyrights, to the point that we need to jump through hoops to simply use or play what we have paid for. If I pay for a movie and want to plug my Macbook Pro which purchased it into ANY monitor, I should have the right to do so.MacBook Pro core 2 duo, 30" Cinema Display, Mac OS X (10.4.10)

You can thank Hollywood for that. There are many reason's for this. This forces you to watch HD content and pay for it by renting it from AppleTV or any other device you have with HD support. After it has been out for a while and they have made there money, than maybe they will release HD for download to your computer without the stupid HDCP protection crap. You can thank the following studios for this.
You will notice that you can download some HD content but not all. HDCP ***** and will force you to go back to buying HD Blu Ray.
