    pyro,

    Welcome to the Discussions.

If you have the first Power Mac G4 (PCI Graphics "Yikes"), it can support up to OS 10.4.11 Tiger. If you have the last G4, (Mirrored Drive Doors 2003), it can support the latest version of Leopard 10.5.x. Knowing which model G4 you have can narrow down Tiger and Leopard.

You will want a retail MacOS 9.x CD (white label with big orange '9') or a retail MacOS X 10.x (black label, silver 'X') to install a new OS.

That is actually quite difficult to do accidentally. Are you certain that is what has happened, and not that you suddenly and unexpectedly got the flashing question mark for no apparent reason? The flashing question mark can sometimes be cured by less drastic means than a re-install.

Mac OS prevents you from damaging or erasing system files, so it's improbable that you deleted your entire hard disk. After a simple re-install, you should be able to find all of your documents and programs that were on your hard disk.
