Hello,

Is the ATI Radeon 9600 Pro AGP 8x 256MB compatible with my PowerMac G4 Sawtooth (see my signature for tech spec)?

Thank you,

Macjaime

    Hi-

The 9600 cards, Mac or flashed, are only 4x and 8x AGP compatible. Won't work in a 2x AGP system.
Besides, the 9600's are dogs.... get a 9700 or 9800 to perk up graphics, and get Core Image support.

Some good points. My 2 cents worth from recent experience.

A 9600 is a far leap from the 9000 due to it having Core Image acceleration. I just picked one up for NZD$35...

Sure, nether cards will work in an AGP x2 Mac, however, in a AGP x4 Mac (ie. MDD) the 9600 with pins 3 and 11 circumvented, runs 10.5 like a rocket.

    Well, a small rocket...

I though 9600 was core image compatible, since it's basically the same chip as a 9600.
So can I not make a 9600 pro work on my cube? Even with covered pins?

All 9600's support Core Image, but are *not 2x AGP* compatible.

The Cube is 2x AGP, so No.

Get a flashed Geforce 6200. That's a darn good card for the Cube.

Another problem that you will face, is you list your OS as 9.2.2. The Geforce 6200, or any other "modern" card, will not support 3D acceleration in 9.2.2.
For the Geforce, or even if you could use a 9600 (but can't), you will need Tiger 10.4.3 or later.

I am going to be putting Tiger Server on it. And I am probably going for a 9000 pro. I need the best card I can get that can power my ASD. So far the 9000 pro was the best I could find.
