After some years stuffed away in the basement my clamshell 300MHz iBook won't charge the battery any more. I've tried zapping the PRAM and resetting the PMU as described ( but it's stone dead. Browsing for replacement batteries seems to be close to 100$.... do I have any other options?

    There are batteries on Ebay for 50$ (shipping included)
    Look for one with a 12 months warranty minimum which ships from your country (and not from china)
    The replacement batteries are not as good as the original ones.

    Hello =)
    In my endevors to find a decent working battery (I have a box full of them, that just wont hold a charge) I have come across a few things. None of these tricks have worked for me, but its 100% free to try ~ what can it hurt?

    Apple offers a Battery Reset program, but this only works in OS9.

    I have also found a Battery Health Monitor Program, that is great for any laptop. Lets you keep tabs on your battery:

    Another trick, place the battery (fully uncharged) in a freezer bag, and put it in the freezer overnight. Allow it to come to room temperature, then install and charge.

    I hope you have better luck than I did!

    my original battery in my Graphite Clamshell died slowly and was holding a charge of 4 sec to 10 sec.. but as I wasted lots of money on original Apple batteries on Ebay for my Wallstreet powerbook I finally bought one from and I must say I'm really happy. Yes it cost $100 but hey that's the price for a good working battery and not a fake or dead one bought on the net! It last about 3 to 5 hours depending on the use of the computer and your set up in the energy control panel.

    you have the choice in your hand but if u wanna use your loved clamshell for long go for a real battery
