I have the error above on the intel iMac 24" when running Second Life.

Error lines from syslog can be:

avalon-3 kernel[0]: NVDA(OpenGL): Channel exception! status = 0xffff info32 = 0x3 = Fifo: Unknown Method Error
avalon-3 kernel[0]: 0000000b

and

avalon-3 kernel[0]: NVDA(OpenGL): Channel exception! status = 0xffff info32 = 0x6 = Fifo: Parse Error
Feb 23 01:53:22 avalon-3 kernel[0]: 0000000b

If this happens SL is going to freeze up and die

Hardware failure?
OSX bug?
Application bug?

iMac 24" Intel Core 2 Duo 2.16 GHz, Mac OS X (10.5.6), NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT

I would recommend you read the following Apple article about Kernel panics:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1392

They can also be cause by memory errors, try the solutions provided in the article and then report back. If you can provide additional details about your iMac that might be helpful such as how much memory it has, who installed it and what brand of memory and how frequently you get the error are all useful clues.

I do not have kernel panics. Only the application freezes and sometimes some parts of screen look strange but are recoverable after closing second life application.

Hardware test says all is okay.
Computer is iMac 6.1 Intel Core Duo 2.16 GHz with 24''
    Mem 2 x 1025 MB DDR2 667 MHz
    SMV-Version 1.10F2
Video Nvidia Geoforce 7300 GT VRAM 128 MB

I use USB keyboard (the other things like TV stick and Firewire disk have no effect.

Before I upgraded to OS X 10.5 Second Life caused kernel panics or froze system totally, but now does not.

I use smcFanControl as else the iMac gets way too hot when running Second Life (without increasing Fan speed on its own).

I can watch Video, use any other application (have no graphic games using OpenGL though) wihtotu any problem.

It is only Second Life (SL), which is using OpenGL and hanging with the reported error in system.log

SL programmers blame Apple, I do not now whom to blame. But as SL caused system crashes when using 10.4 I guess it is a Mac problem with open GL or the Nvidia graphic cards in the iMacs. People having Ati Graphic cards seem to have no problem with SL and OpenGL.

I get the same issue on my machine every time I wake it from sleep. The screen goes all pixelated, and I have to power down because all keyboard and mouse functions are useless.

I get the same error in the logs, accompanied by junk on screen, the odd pause, etc.

GEnerally, whenever I try to do anything game-wise.

ioUrbanTerror has to constantly be restarted - today it won't even run.
THe problem is getting progressively worse.

There is no kernel panic, but the machine is becoming increasingly unusable.

I have run all the apple provided diagnostics, everything checks out clean.

Ran one of those homebrewed memtest86 cd's overnight.. probably a few dozen full passes it made, found zero error.s IT did end up showing some screen corruption though (on an 80x24 or whatever it is text screen, some blocks were different colors, some letters changed around).

This is a memory corruption issue somewhere... video card or otherwise.

I also get the same error in the logs, accompanied by junk on screen, long pauses until eventually a reboot is required.

This happens most often when running Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08. Problem seems to be getting worse all the time. Seems to have started after upgrading to 10.5.6 or 10.5.5.

Also have run all the diagnostics and everything checks out clean.

Now it starts to get crazy. I have not run any game using opengl for some time. Now eyetv is running which never caused problems. All other apps running like safari are apple apps.

I get the Channel exception now every few seconds and strange things are happening on my screen:

    May 16 21:37:59 avalon-4 kernel[0]: NVDA(OpenGL): Channel exception! status = 0xffff info32 = 0x6 = Fifo: Parse Error
    May 16 21:38:01 avalon-4 kernel[0]: NVDA(OpenGL): Channel exception! status = 0xffff info32 = 0x6 = Fifo: Parse Error

Count me in. I never had any problems yet, but it started when I used the "feature download" Multiwinia (http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/games/role_strategy/multiwinia.html).
    It looks like this: http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/3811/img3937.jpg

Not just Tiger Woods PGA Tour. Yesterday got same errors w/crash watching live video of NASA Shuttle walk from CNN. Obviously something going on with NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT Video card in the iMac 24" with this particular video card.

    AM kernel NVDA(OpenGL): Channel exception! status = 0xffff info32 = 0x6 = Fifo: Parse Error

    I'm having similar issues.
    See: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v216/thecoppins/Picture4.png

It is happening when playing world of warcraft, and it happens every time I play, though the amount of game play I get varies from a few minutes to half an hour or so. For a while I could simply exit full screen and go windowed mode which would get things working again, but since latest patch, only thing that gets me back is to reset the machine.

I have recently upgraded the ram in the machine, to 4gb.
    This is what I purchased: http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-VSA4GSDSKIT667C4-PC2-5300-200-Pin-Laptops/dp/B0016 0YDSS

I have tried running Techtools deluxe which reports everything is fine.

I've tried resetting the PRam or whatever it's called, all with no effect.

I've found this post on the WoW forums: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?sid=1&topicId=14637453853&ST=US-40 7592-jxcfKxiZlmsbCyLJ4IdvrGuGoblHY3ddjre

which has a blue post saying it's either a driver or a hardware failure.

    Any suggestions?

I got a message from Ambrosiasoft stating it is a driver or hardware failure APPLE IS AWARE OF. I already contacted my local apple service provider since applecare support line told me to "repair permissions" sigh :/

    Hello,
I'm sorry you are stuck in the middle. Apple is fully aware of the issue. Simply do a search for "NVDAOpenGL: Channel exception" and you will find plenty. My iMac was actually replaced by AppleCare last year for this same problem...generally brought about when playing World of Warcraft.

I'm experiencing the same issue as of the last 10.5.7 update on a 2.66GHz mac pro. I've seen it happen when I simply drag a finder window around. I mainly use aperture and photoshop elements.
This is now happening multiple times per day and it's getting very frustrating.

Same freezes and same error messages in my console log on an iMac 24.
Using Systems Preferences, I just turned off the ink feature and am thinking about uninstalling my Wacom tablet. Anyone else using either of these items?
