I am trying to get Compressor to upload to a FTP by using a remote destination. Every time I export, the export goes fine (I watch the file in /private/var/temp/ and it gets successfully rendered) but every time it gets to the upload part, it fails.

This is the status tab in Batch Monitor from a failed export/upload:

Name: Testing-05.10.09
Job Type: Compressor
Priority: High
Time Elapsed: 0:00:09
Time Remaining: 0:00:00
Percent Complete: 100
Status: Failed - Failed to upload to ftp://frstprs:••••••@ftp.firstpresdearborn.org/Testing-051009.m4v, encoded file is in: /var/tmp/45B57E31-7DA0-41AA-9352-79F6D6419E22-local-Testing-051009.m4v

iMac 24", Mac OS X (10.5.5), Compressor 3.0.4

IMHO, it would be best to set a local destination then upload (without Compressor) once the file is complete.

From a technical standpoint, that is the best option...and what I figure I'll have to keep doing. It's just the idea of starting an export and having the Mac automatically do everything is so alluring...

    ...oh well.

FWIW I try to configure Compressor to send the finished files directly to the server every couple of months, but it fails to do so every time.

You would think that setting the Destination to a remote server, and entering the correct login etc info it would work, but it simply doesn't.

I would check to make sure your FTP path is set correctly. We do this all of the time with Compressor with no problems.

We've been using the FTP upload function in Compressor here at our company for several months now and usually it works fine without any problems. Once and a while though it will give the error "Failed to upload to ftp://...". I'm curious if anyone knows how to access the temporary file that Compressor supposedly creates in the "/var/tmp/" directory. I've changed the view so that I can see hidden files, and can navigate to the directory... but can never find the file name that is shown in the logs. I've looked for information on this and can't seem to find anything. Would be great to be able to access these files so that we can get them uploaded without having to do the entire export again, of if you could set two targets so that you have a local copy besides the one to be uploaded. Anyone have any ideas?

Maybe I'm missing this, but most programs that offer FTP access like this have a button to test your destination server. It's frustrating to have to re-encode the movie over and over again to test different server settings. Am I missing something?

There is no test button that I am aware of.
