Using disk utility got message that it was not able to repair volume 1 HFS. (what does this mean??, harddisk damaged?).
Tough to tell if it's bad HD or corrupted directory.
Unfortunately DU can't fix all that much, your best bet is DiskWarrior, you need the CD though.
If DW can't fix it, you might try Data Rescue II...
(Has a Free Demo to see if it could or not, but you'll need another drive to recover to).
to recover what you can.
Option 2, boot this one in Target mode...
And recovering from another Mac, or booting this Mac from another HDD

Took it to the store to have some professional experts take a look at my computer, however all were convinced I lost the data and was no longer able to retrieve it. Took your advise and bought DiskWarrior. Problem was fixed in 5 minutes!! and all my data are still there. Perfect! Thanks for your input and putting a smile on my face again.

I can't imagine why you were told that by "professional experts"!?
Thanks for your input and putting a smile on my face again.
Thanks, it put one on mine too!
Currently Being ModeratedJul 28, 2009 10:11 PM (in response to NP_NY)Okay I got the same problem on my G5 however, I had another user account from which I am typing right now. Let`s say that UserA is the account I can not access and UserB is the account I can access on the same G5. I can view the folders on UserA from UserB however, I can not log in to UserA whatsoever. Any ideas?G5, Mac OS X (10.4.7)
