I have exactly the same problem. Wifi drops when the phone sleeps, and needs to be reset by toggling the wifi on-off switch. Scanning for the network is also flaky. It worked perfectly prior to installing the update. We need a fix, Apple!

For me, turning wifi off and on again doesn't work at all. I have to turn the iphone off and on again and sometimes not even that works.

Seconded. I really am having trouble with this.

I'm using a 3G iPhone, and upgraded to 3.0 yesterday. Since then I've been unable to join any wifi network at all. I've tried.

    -Resetting my network settings
    -reinstalling 3.0
    -full reset
    -full restore
-turning on then off any number of iPhone settings

Still every single time I click on a network, it whirls a bit, then tells me "unable to join the network "---" " Signal strength is also MUCH lower, the router right beside me now is only at 1 bar despite being less than 5 feet away.

I have messed with my router countless times, changing security protocols, passwords, block devices, everything. Nothing changes. My roommates' iMac is connected to my network fine, and I can't join any other networks that are nearby that I used to be able to piggyback on.

So this is definitely an Apple problem. If anyone knows what to do with it, (as long as you don't tell me to reset the damned phone again), please let me know. This is reaaaally frustrating.

I've heard of several iPhone users who have experienced this behavior when using a guest network. It's obvious if you're on a guest network if you're redirected to a webpage to login after selecting the WiFi access point from the list. After 15 min or so of use (not inactivity), the iPhone will continue to report a signal (bars at upper left), but the IP Address is dropped. Probably not the issue for all of you, but this seems to be a known iPhone issue that hasn't been patched yet.

Also having the same problem not being able to connect to WiFi after updating to 3.0

    Tried resetting the iPhone.
    Tried resetting network connections.

Always see full bars at the top of the screen but cannot get to any web pages or do any other online work.

    Something's not right.

Same kind of wifi problems here and several of my coworkers have the same problems. It's an APPLE problem for sure. Let's hope apple ownes up to it and gets right to work on a fix. If not, I will seriously reconsider buying apple products again. There is no way apple does not know about it so let's hope they do the right thing.

    Same here!

But it also effects receiving and sending texts. The progress bar for sending texts goes right up until the very end and stops and then eventually has the red exclamation mark saying the text was not sent.

    Also, can't receive voicemails.

Rebooting solves it, until it goes on stand by for a while...

    Help, Apple
    Fix this, please!

Having the same problems. Wifi definitely gets cut off as it goes to sleep, but since this morning is losing connection even as its being used. Like another user here, i thought it was a router issue and fiddled with it till it would be fiddled no more. but its not a router issue, its apple.

i noticed in the wifi advanced settings, it gets hold of a public ip, router ip, and dns entries that it just does not wanna let go (both under dhcp and bootp setting). router is set to dhcp of course. i don't remember such stickiness in the phone before.

this constant connectivity drop off is becoming a huge annoyance and inconvenience. if only i could go back to 2.2. i wish apple would come up with a fix, but not holding my breath.

I have disabled push email and it made no difference. Also, I have made full restore to factory state with iTunes - still no wireless, so I guess it's a hardware problem - again.

As that means 4 more weeks for me to get a replacement device (very slow Vodafone service), is there any suggestions what phone to buy while I wait for my third iPhone? It has to be super-simple, non-expensive and able to sync with my Mac.

I'm experiencing the same issues on both mine and my wives phone. Have tried resetting the network on both phones and not working. Sure hope they find a fix fast. If not, i'll revert back to 2.2 that work flawlessly on wifi.
