Do a complete restore through iTunes and it should solve the problem.

A complete restore should resolve the issue for most things. When I did the upgrade from iPhone OS 2.2.1 to 3.0 on my 3G, the device was lethargic and seemed to be operating very warmly.

I performed a complete restore of the device using iTunes and that seemed to fix the issues I had with the upgrade.

After that the device was even cool to the touch, even under moderate to heavy usage. I also got about a day out of a full charge, with push notifications active and two push active e-mail accounts.

Same here.. battery drains too quickly with 3.0 even after a fresh restore!

Very unhappy about the battery only lasting a day now, on 2.1 it would last for days.

Finally got my battery life back

I decided to use my windows PC instead of Mac, restored without a backup, turned off push and location services and my battery has only dropped by 10% since yesterday.

I have also the same problem as yours. My only hope to this is getting back the old version which is 2.0 and I don't know if its even possible.

I have a 20 month old iPhone 2G and I'm only getting 5 hours of standby now.
I have done a full restore and setup as new phone and if anything it is worse.
I also restored my iPhone backup onto an Ipod Touch 2nd generation and it has all the same email accounts and push etc... and it lasts over a week. So either the iPhone battery is duff or the problem is with iphone only.

I have ordered a new battery off ebay as I remember when I had Nokia phones the batteries didn't last forever.

I just found out the real prob! there is one simple thing to do (after switch off the "push" on mail, wifi, fetch data, and so on). You need to see if there is "notification" on the "setting" (it's below the airplane mode , wifi). Switch it off and reboot iphone. Then settled, battery back to normal.
Normally the "notification" will appeared when we install some app like YM, Im+, AIM, etc. Good luck!

Hi guys, just tossing in my 50c..

I too had the drainage issue. on my iphone 2g FW 3.0.1, with the update done and restore with backup.

drainage was 1 percentage in less than a minute, every minute and the phone was getting warm.

    My settings where:
none of these settings turned on
    -3g(obviously)
    -push
    -fetch
-notifications (cant see this settin any-hu)
    -auto brightness
    -wi-fi
    -Bluetooth

But then i read about the restore as new phone and that seems to have done the trick for me.

    usage statis as of now:
    usage:1h 57
    standby: 8h 24m
    battery at 61%

last night i turned on ipod for 6 and ½ hours , battery went from ~85% to ~45%

Not bad, but i still think that we need a battery overhaul by apple as the phone (placebo?) felt to last longer on 2.1 firmware

I have a iPhone 3G. When I upgraded to 3.0, battery started draining like ****, even on "standby". I've found out that if I turn off 3G, BT, WIFI, Push, Find iPhone option, Fetch - Manual, my battery would last for 2-3 days on very low use (like... almost no calls). On normal use (few calls, ipod, games, etc) it would last 1 to 2 days. If I turn only 3G on, battery drain slightly increases... but not that much (if I do not use it...).

When I turn Push, Fetch and Find iPhone... battery drains like ****... like 1 day. And on intense usage... battery time is around 4-5 hours....

Well... but we all now that intense use just do that to iPhone...

Hope my experience be of any use to you.
