My superdrive in my 20" iMac mounts blank or pre-recorded Cds and will mount blank DVDs, but when i put a normal DVD in (one i bought from the shop), i will not mount on the desktop.

I am confused. I first bought an iMac towards the begining of september, but took it back and got a replacement because the superdrive was faulty (would not burn DVDs and made loud noise when burning CDs) and now, two weeks later, my replacement computer is messing up. not too impressed with these iMacs so far - or the superdrive at least.

I have the same issue, suddenly. Burned fine till recently, then when I needed to burn some yesterday it failed to do so. It's Verbatim DVDs and I have a box of 100 where of the first 20 was fine some weeks ago.

I'll try your advice and if you don't hear from me again, that was it.

    Thanks anyway.

    Not stupid, Damien.

I had same problem and was stumped 'til I found this post. Thanks for the solution. (I repaired permissions and DIDN'T restart)
