Q: Getting universal remote to ignore the remote

I bought a Universal Dock today for my iPod Touch 2nd gen. It comes with a remote, which I am finding more useful for my remote-less MBP Unibody than for the dock itself. The problem is I can't get the dock to ignore the remote, so when I hit any button on the remote it tries to do stuff on both the Mac and the iPod.

Pairing won't work here since pairing is only specific to the device, not the remote. I also discovered that the popular "cover it up" doesn't work on these newer docks, as the receiver appears to be omnidirectional. Covering up the visible receiver does nothing.

Any ideas?
