The procedure posted by Nadinee-e-e is what I was guided through, and the results have been good so far.
I asked if I should repeat this procedure if the problem persists. The tech said "No"- that if the problem continues it is a sign of a bigger problem. He also said that it could take a year or so for this problem to start.. but he didn't say why.
Anyway, hope this helps. If it happens to me again I'll post back here.a couple.., Mac OS X (10.4.11)

this problem as much as possible because I don't burn DVDs terribly
often. I could afford to try out many things, one at a time,
over an extended period of time. I have sacrificed a couple dozen
DVDs in the process, just like many others.
My problem is similar to eveyone else's, except that I can easily burn
audio CDs in iTunes, yet I am unable to burn DVDs in Disk Utility or
These things have NOT worked for me so far:
- reducing burn speed for DVDs
- saving as images first, then burning DVDs
- deleting the com.apple.finder.plist file
- resetting PRAM and NVRAM (worked only for 1 or two DVDs)
- chaning disc brands (``no-name,'' memorex, verbatim, sony...I thought
it worked at first, but only was successful with a dew DVDs from
Sony...then I ran into the same problems)
- closing all other programs except Toast/Disc Utility to
The ONLY thing that has worked for me thus far:
- cleaning the lens with a CD lens cleaner
Therefore, I recommend that you spend a few dollars to buy one of these
``special'' CDs with a soft little brush that cleans off the lens. I
have burned several different DVD data types over the past few days
with no problems.

This thread was intended for receipt of help and as a source of help.
There are those who do not have the convenience of an apple care packet nor the money to pay the apple guy 50 bucks to help them on the phone. I would love to jump in the car and drive to apple, but the two hour drive (4 round) is a bit much. I've called them instead.
I did call Apple and their only suggestion was to replace the drive. I stopped using the Sony discs since they didn't work... ever, then started using Memorax. The error has decreased significantly. I have a feeling that it may just be the media. I think I will try the disk cleaner then call for a replacement otherwise.Mac Pro Dual, Mac OS X (10.5.2)

Was there a consensus on a fix to this problem that suited everyone's situation? If so, I missed it.
Here's what I hope to be the final entry from me on the topic.
After trying everything in this thread and other threads online, and after tryng everything the Apple tech support recommended on the phone- I was left with the same error, and just as often.
Took the laptop ("Late 2006 MacBook") to the local Apple store, met with a Genius who burned a disc on the spot without any hassle whatsoever. Just my luck, right?
He was able to confirm the history of errors by looking into a log file somewhere. Said it would be about $315.00 to have it sent out for repairs, since it was out of warranty.
I objected to this, explaining that the errors had been happening for over a year, which takes the first instance well back into the warranty period.
He re-checked the error logs and confirmed that the errors did begin while the laptop was within warranty, and that he'd have the computer sent out for repairs free of charge.
About a week later they called for me to come pick it up. Got there and waited 10 minutes while they went ot look for it in the back. Then the guy brought out a laptop that wasn't mine (it was a black one which looked nice, and it's owner had good taste in music judging by the stickers on it!). It was tempting, but I asked for mine.
After another 5-10 minutes he comes out with mine, and a bill of $115.00 or so. Objected to that, explaining the situation and then waited some more while the matter was discussed with a manager, who removed the charges.
In the end, they had to replace the burner... which is exactly what most people are saying in the numerous threads online about the issue.

Currently Being ModeratedMar 24, 2009 5:45 PM (in response to crittle1)Thsnks... i use ALL the tips i found here.... and the burner start to burn.... but the roxio still fallin in kernel screen, the finder comence to work, but my work depend much in this tuype of aplications.... to bad for mac, i buy "the best multimedia creation computer in the market" and since the first month comence the problems... the battery is dead, the blue tooth... and now... the burner... even in external devices ... all fails.... sorry, but i never recomend mac in the future.... wats happen with the best computer maker in the world???macbook pro, Mac OS X (10.5.6)

Currently Being ModeratedJun 20, 2009 1:09 PM (in response to crittle1)I've had a similiar problem. My Mac failed to burn CDs both form iTunes and from finder. The error was still the same: 0x8002006E.
I asked google and find some interesting ideas ... I tried all these ideas. But none of them seems to work.
But the best idea and that's also the one that worked for me was to restart the finder. Sounds simple and is it too.
- just press the cmdaltesc keys
- in the window that appeare, choose the finder application and press the restart button
- insert a blank cd-r and try to burn the cd from iTunes or the finder.
It seems like a workaround but because I'll never restart my Mac (I always use the standby) I don't have to restart the finder application everytime I want to burn a cd.
I hope the "snow leopard" will fix the problem!

I bought the latest osx 10.5.7 from Apple Liverpool, Uk - now I cant burn a dvd without the error 0x8002006E coming up, Apple sais "Not our fault" - Yeah right then Howcome I CAN burn CDS....
hummm - as a professional user its a bit of an inconvenience....

This is stupid, but try this; shut down the power book/computer, remove the battery/cord, wait a while (a few minutes), put battery back in, and restart. DO NOT RUN iTUNES. Burn as many disks as you like. You may also need to do the pram thing (command, option, p, r), but I missed it once and it still worked.

Currently Being ModeratedSep 12, 2009 10:33 PM (in response to crittle1)I've tried every possible solution I could find, from resetting my PRAM and NVRAM to deleting my plist to trying different DVD brands to clearing my hard drive to pressing random keys and removing the battery to repairing my disk permissions repeatedly to blowing into my computer. Nothing works.
I'm desperate, so I've tried several hundred times, and so far have been able to burn 4 DVDs. It seems like a fluke the few times that it has worked. I always get the error message BEFORE my MacBook Pro starts writing the DVD though, so luckily my DVDs are still usable at the end of the process.
I won't be able to go to an Apple Store for a while, and I'm not sure what to do at this point. Does anyone have any other suggestions?MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.8)
