I am not able to type in /System/CoreServices/Java Web Start to Open With: when I use Get Info on the file. I am only given the option to select an application through folders to Open With: and I cannot find the /System folder. What step am I missing?

I'm sorry, I see that I need to select the Hard Drive from the Finder list, and also that the thread is:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/Java Web Start
This was my first time using the Discussion thread and I didn't realize it kept going. Perhaps this will help someone else avoid the same issue.

I had no idea what was going on with my computer until I did a Google and found this Discussion. Thank you for your help! This is definitely something that Apple needs to fix asap.

What great answers - super responses!!

I had the same exact issue after updating my older G4 iMac to Leopard... all the java apps opened in textedit.

Once I located the "java web start" app, I changed the settings in "get info" for .jnlp download and... the app worked perfectly!

Thanks so much to everyone who responded to this question.
