Password problem with Network Setup Assistant

Hey Guys,

I just got my first Macbook after using a PC for many years. I have a linksys router that I have my PC connected to. I'm trying to connect my Macbook to it using the Network Setup Assistant, but am having problems with the password. I go to the screen where I choose which wireless network I want to join. I choose my linksys, and it tells me that my "selected network requires a password". I type in the WEP key for the linksys, assuming it's the "password", but it isn't working after numerous tries. Anyone mine telling what I'm supposed to type in?

Here's something you could try:
- Get into your linksys config pages and go to the wireless security page that has your wep key listed - it may have a password and wep key, which will be two different things. The "password" that you're being asked for may not be the wep key, but that password listed on the linksys config page.
- When putting in the password for the wireless network, see if it gives you an option for WEP 40/128-bit HEX and/or WEP 40/128-bit ASCII - I've found that choosing one of those and inputting the wep key usually works. In your menu bar (white bar at the top of the screen) you should have an icon for your airport (wireless) - if you click on that and choose "other", it should let you put in the name of your network (the ssid, listed on the linksys config pages in the wireless section) and give you those options. If you play around with them long enough, one way or another you should get it working.

Hope this helps. Welcome to the mac world. I, too, am a "switcher."
