Are Email Addresses Case Sensitive ?

I always thought they were, but on Saturday I was told that it didn't matter what case you typed the address, it was automatically converted to lower case.

Is this true or was my friend talking a load of the proverbial?

Email addresses are NOT case sensitive. Believe me, I used to be everyone's worst nightmare....a telemarketer!!!

Email addresses are not case sensitive. In fact it is often useful to capitalize certain letters to avoid ambiguity -- for example capitalize "L" to avoid it being confused with "1'.

Website URLs can be case-sensitive if they contain a slash "/" after the domain name, and subsequent letters.

Domain names are not case sensitive.

Thanks to both of you.

This came about because the person's mother in law gave me her email address which contained a couple of capital letters and I queried it.

He said it didn't matter, but I was still doubtful - hence the query here.
