Transfering files from PC

I have an external usb 2.0 hard drive which is formated for pc which has files i need to use, can i just connect my powerbook to the external pc formated drive and just drag & drop the files to my external mac formated drive? Is it that simple or will this not work?

15 Powerbook G4, 1.67Ghz, 1GB RAM, 128VRAM, Tried Tiger but switched back to, Mac OS X (10.3.9), SSL User

I am trying to do this too and my folders are showing up but the files within them are not. When I check them on a PC they are there, when I plug into the mac book it's empty folders.
