iPod Battery only lasts an hour

Last week my iPod went into a state of "very low battery". Now when you charge it (full charge icon on the screen), it only plays music for about 1 hour. Also, if I remove it from the USB cable with a full battery and leave it off over night, the next day it has the "very low battery" again.
My ipod had been performing flawlessly until this started occurring.

I assume the answer is to send it back to apple, but wanted to see if anyone else had experienced a similar issue.

This iPOD is less that 8 months old.

Have you tried restoring your iPod? For info on how to restore an iPod, see this Knowledge Base article:

Restoring iPod to factory settings

See if that helps with your issue.

If it doesn't, then this indicates that your iPod's battery may simply need to be replaced.
