First of all, let me say that I'm very sorry for your loss. If you have not been able to transfer your library to your new laptop, do not sync your iPod right now. If you are on autosync & sync to an empty library, you will wipe out the content on your iPod. If you have no backups to transfer your iTunes library to your new system, you can use one of the 3rd party apps that can transfer iPod>iTunes. I suggest iPodRip which you can find on versiontracker.com. Once you have recovered your library onto your new system & you're sure everything is working, at that point you can sync your iPod.

I would also suggest that once you are up & running that you begin a regular backup program for your music, just in case disaster strikes, again.
