Skype video chat makes fans go crazy

I don't have this problem. Though I don't keep it long... Usually I use non video calls.

i use skype all the time sometimes for over an hour at a time to a pc and don't have any problems with the fans

Hi Colossal. I've just been on skype now and didn't notice the fans at all, and i was using the video as well. The version i am on is 2.6.0.148 so it may be worth checking for updates. good luck JB

I'd consider that as a normal behaviour, for macbook graphic chipset is not that powerful and use shared memory back and forth and might have to work extra for video application.

It also reportedly happen when users watch long duration video on youtube or rendering/converting video file.

Where and how are you using your machine? Video calls are fairly CPU heavy, which would cause it to warm up which would require the fans to be activated. Are you using your machine on a hard surface, or on a softer one? Having it on a hard surface keeps the machine cooler which may help if the fans are running on overtime. Hope this helps

I have the same problem; the CPU goes to near-100% and the fans kick to full.

Core 2 Duo 2GHz, Skype version 2.5.0.85. Maybe I ought to update it to the absolute latest version.
