Incoming Mail wakes my iMac from sleep

Is is normal for incoming mail to wake my iMac from sleep? There are times when I need to away from my iMac for a period of time so I put it to sleep. However, when I return, I find that incoming mail has caused it to wake the display.

Is there anyway I can prevent this from happening without shutting down the iMac entirely?

Go to "Apple / System Preferences / Energy Saver" and select "Options" then uncheck "Wake for Ethernet network admin. access.

To let your computer sleep but remain available to network administrator access, select the checkbox labeled "Wake for Ethernet network administrator access"

Hi there,

You also need to check the preferences in whatever Mail client you're using, you may have it set to check mail every few minutes etc, so when mail does arrive it will probably chime or beep or wake up the Mac.

Or you can simply close your Mail client, which I am assuming you have open otherwise how would your Mac know Mail has arrived. If you have no Mail client open, no browser open, then that's a real mystery and you should post back...
