MacBook reaching 80+ degrees

i was wondering if this was okay. the macbook only reaches such high temperatures when i watch movies in full screen mode or using clamxav. is this okay for the macbook? fans are already at full speed.

Thanks

I've seen my macbook's cpu (november revision) hit 190 degrees Fahrenheit, and while the fans were going a full speed, everything was fine and nothing exciting (fortunately) happened. There are lots of articles online about macbooks running hot but the impression I get is that the machines are doing just fine. I've posted a link to a forum where someone asks a question about the macbook's temperature:

Regen.

Don’t worry about the temperature of your MacBook. Mine gets to temperatures of around 90° to 145° F. but then the fans turn on full force and my MacBook cools off then goes back to being around 85° F.

80° F. is pretty normal temperature conditions for computers.

Which 80+ degrees? 80C or 80F? Both are not the same.

my macbook runs at 80C and higher when going to certain websites full of flash applications like www.wakfu.com using osx. at "normal" websites it runs at 60C (using istat to measure the temp)

using windows w/ bootcamp however runs cooler at 60C even in flash websites

maybe there is something "wrong" with how osx handles flash based websites?

however, for me, something is "wrong" with macbooks temp, my uncles asus laptop is not that "hot" and can be used on the lap 🙂

have no idea regarding the video card of the macbook, however, i did a test on browsing through a website with 2 macbooks, one which was mine and the other was a display at the store.

the stores macbook was quiet and runs cooler than mine. browsing through a specific website the temp only rose around 2 degrees

on my macbook it was quiet as well however it runs hot (around 62C for a long period of time.) browsing the same specific website made the fan run at full speed and the temp shot as high as 80C. looking at cpu usage it goes up to 90+% cpu usage

I prefer SMC Fan control.

Firstly, activating the Dashboard can increase the temperature straight away, depending on how complex your other widgets are and what they do.

Second, smcFanControl sits in the menubar, providing a constant temperature reading. At the same time it gives you a reading on your current fan speed.

Third, you can set different fan speed settings. I override my "default" fan settings, setting the RPM higher than Apple's default, to keep the CPU temperature down slightly (though possibly at the cost of battery life). I can even tell the fans to go full blast even if it's not necessary.
