system settings don't finishl updating
After downloading two software updates 6/24 (one was a 3 MB security update and the other was a 21 MB system update), a gray question mark appears over each icon in the dock when I try to open that appl. In the Mac OSX Software pulldown menu, there's a message reading, "Your system settings are being updated. Unable to open your preferred Web browser. Try again in a few minutes."
That was last night. Still no change today. I've restarted but the problem persists. The non-flashing gray question marks disappear over dock icons, but they reappear when I try to open that appl.
Is it time to reinstall Tiger and never again download software updates, or is there something else that I can do to fix the problem?
