folders vs. albums

I have set up a folder for "pets"....inside that are two albums: one for Fido and one for Fifi (joke)..... When I click on the folder, ALL the pictures for both albums show up in the center area, I'm sorry....don't know the name of it...where all the library photos are displayed. Is this normal?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.

Yes. This is perfect.

If your Pets Folder is closed, click the little triangle next to its name to reveal the list of albums it contains.

I like to keep the Info Pane open most of the time. That's the little i near the lower left corner of the iPhoto window. Clicking on one Album will get you the info for that album, including the number of photos it contains. Clicking on the Folder will reveal both the number of albums and the total number of photos contained in the folder. Pretty handy.
