Case damage

I had the monitor replaced on my MBP a couple of months ago under Applecare's first year warranty. Since immediately after that I noticed a couple of marks on the case near the track pad. I would wipe them off ... like a pencil line mark ... and they would come back.

I now see that they are rub marks from where the lid is bent out at the top of the monitor ... it has worn through the case finish and is now spreading.

Upon closer examination I see that there are a number of spots around the monitor that are very sloppy - it is as though they used a screwdriver to pry the monitor out, slightly bending the case.

Now, today, I see that there is a bow in the side of the case just above the PC Card slot on the right side - as though the aluminum has stretched.

I will go into my dealer (licensed dealer in Vancouver Canada, not an Apple store) to talk to them about the problems -- they did the screen replacement for me at their service department. But ... any advice from others on what I might expect from Apple on this?

Thanks for any insights / experiences.

The first thing to do of course is take it back to where the repair was done and see if they are willing or able to make it right. If you get no satisfaction from them, you could then call Apple Customer Relations and explain that the repair was not properly done at their authorized repair facility and that you feel that the damage inflicted on your computer ought to be repaired. Be very nice and polite. You may need to send it off to Apple for proper repair. But if you are under Applecare, then they really should take care of this.

If you just have a one year warranty, you might consider purchasing the 3 year warranty. Otherwise, once your one year warranty is up, you will be on your own. If you are at all close to the end of your 1 year warranty, be sure and get a case number documenting that the problem first occurred under warranty.

Good luck!
