"Cannot Find CD Burner or Burning Software"

I'm trying to burn a mix that I've made in iTunes 7.2 . I click the "Burn CD" in the bottom right hand corner of the window, and it reads up at the top that it cannot locate my CD burner or the burner software.

One interesting thing I've noticed is that when I inserted the blank CD, it was not recognized by iTunes. So when I went into the preferences to check which drive it was sending the data to, it had the correct device.

This is not the first time it's happened with programs outside of iTunes. My Iomega HotBurn is not working either. I do have Daemon Tools installed and drives mounted, which is probably where the problem is, but the friend who recommended Daemon Tools said that his computer has been burning discs just fine with Daemon Tools loaded on.

Please help ASAP.

If you have multiple drives on the same IDE or SCSI bus, these drives may interfere with each other.
Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel chipset. If iTunes has problems recognizing CDs or hanging or crashing while importing or burning CDs, check the support site for the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard.

I can no longer burn via iTunes either. I used to be able to burn my playlists without any problems. I just reformatted my 64-bit Vista Business edition workstation, installed my software and the two burners are not recognized. Nero 7.9.6 can see and use both without a problem. I have not installed DAEMON Tools. I am running the latest HP BIOS. Here is my diagnostic output:

Microsoft Windows Vista Professional (Build 6000)
Hewlett-Packard HP xw4400 Workstation
iTunes 7.2.0.35
CD Driver 2.0.6.1

Error while opening iTunes CD driver. This could be caused by a corrupted iTunes file or a conflict with other older CD burning applications, either currently installed or previously installed and uninstalled incorrectly.

I went through all that naffness of making an account in order to scuttle along here and share what I found out.

I had to reinstall Windows XP after my computer suffered a strange "I'll delete fun .dll files" moment. Following this iTunes no longer recognised my CD-RW, although other programs did.

I tried taking DAEMON tools off. No joy.
I tried reinstalling iTunes. No joy.
I tried flipping back to an older version of iTunes. No joy.
I tried installing the GEAR files again. No joy.
I tried scowling and kicking. No joy.

So far, so familiar!

What WORKED...I REPEAT....WHAT WORKED!!! is this:

Download the Gear Driver : http://www.gearsoftware.com/support/drivers.cfm

Then you also need to download this:

http://disc-tools.com/download/sptdbeta

This covers you if you have Daemon, used to have Daemon, are thinking of using Daemon, once talked to someone about Daemon, saw the word Daemon once somewhere you can't remember. Basically, even if you don't have Daemon, download the SPTD because iTunes has some sort of issue about your CD-RW that means it's confused with something else in the world.

Restart your computer.

This should work for you. I've just tried it on iTunes 6.0.4.2 because that was the version I was trying to make recognise the CD-RW when I found the above solution.
