converting a RAR file to BIN

Not sure whether this is the correct forum
Recently I bought a dvd player which unfortunately needs firmware updates installed from time to time.Anyway I goit in touch with manufacturers and they sent me this email with the RAR download.

We would recommend downloading and installing the 00-0523 Firmware
( http://www.oppo.se/product_show.asp?cid=&pid=5&id=31&show=download).
You will need to extract the file from the RAR archive then rename
"BE981-00-0523.BIN" to "935.BIN". You will then use a Data burning
program (such as Nero Burning ROM) to make a new "DATA CD" with "ISO
9660 Only (non-Joliet)" burning instructions in "Mode 1" and "Disc At
Once (DAO)" write type. Put the disc into the player and follow the
onscreen instructions.

Now I also downloaded Stuffit expander to do the conversion but found the file changed to VCL which is a media player prog for some reason.Anyway I removd the VCL prog and started again and ended up with a bin file on my desktop. So far my efforts at renamimng and burning ,whilst producing a result, (ie the cd burnt and there is content) my dvd player wont recognise it. So I must be doing something wrong in the burning /renaming procedure. First I look for some way of renaming it and the only way I can find is by right clicking the file and click "get info" and at the bottom where the file name is shown I change it to 935 BIN.Then I click "New burn folder" and drag the Bin file into the resulting cd burning icon in desktop .All well and good except as I said my player will not recognise the cd data( blank cd are cd -r which worked ok with another recording)The DVDp manufactureres claim the buring should work ok in Disc utilty but I cant get the file in there. Any suggestions? Thanks

Maybe the file isn't a disk image of the disk to burn, but an image of the firmware. In that case, you were doing the right thing to start with (just not getting the rename to work). Sorry for going off in another direction.

Rename the file by selecting it, then pressing return. The name should now be light blue. Type 935.BIN
then press return. Burn this using the Finder. Insert a blank disk. A burn folder should appear. Drag the 935.BIN file to the burn folder, then burn it.

Ok well I burned the renamed file but it seems to also contain VLC media player data. For some reason when i download the original file it appears converted but with VLC as well.By clicking on th file I can isolate the BE981-00-0523.BIN file and burn that seperately. What bothers me is that icon appears grey as in inactive when it should be in bold colouring
