I have not had my intel bassed iMac for not very long (7-8 weeks) and today the mouse scroll ball does not scroll down, but will up and left and right.
Scrollballs eventually need to be cleaned; How to clean your Mighty Mouse Some folks suggest a tiny bit of rubbing alcohol to disolve the dirt & grim build up. When I feel mine getting a bit sluggish I unplug it and turn it upside down on my jeans and roll it in all directions vigorously.
I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM APPLE HAS REPLACE MY MOUSE 2 TIMES IN THE LAST 4 WEEKS AND NOW IT IS DOING IT AGAIN. they send you a new one in 1 day however I would like to know the cause
I got a lint free cloth - old bed sheet - Clean I might ads 😀 - and moistened it and rubbed the scroll ball. I then dried it and hay presto...it works.
The scrollball gets dirty! It collects sweat, oil, dead skin and dirt & grime from our hands, There are tiny rollers inside that this stuff gum up and then the ball can't rotate the rollers any more. That is when it needs to be cleaned. Kawdoo, if you are seriously on your 3rd Mighty Mouse in barely a month, one has to question the environment to which your mouse is being subjected. Since my MM is out of warranty I followed these instructions and have disassembled my MM twice to give the tiny rollers a good cleaning. This is not a task for the faint of heart or the impatient. The MM is super glued all the way around. Once I got it apart, cleaned up and reassembled I only used two little spots of super glue to hold it together. It is now easy to open and clean!
