10.4.10 - no sound in browser

Hi guys,

Since updating to 10.4.10 (Power PC) I can no longer get any sound through my web browser (neither Firefox nor Safari - both latest versions).

I've heard of people having sound 'popping' problems but not a complete lack of sound. For instance, Youtube videos etc have no sound, nor do websites that are supposed to have sound.

Apart from that, software such as iTunes works fine.

Is anyone else experiencing this or can offer any advice?

Try going to Activity Monitor and force-quitting the coreaudiod process. It should auto-relaunch by itself.

I gather you've also tried rebooting to no avail?

Uhm... Rick, have you looked at the value for Audio Input in Audio MIDI Setup (it's in /Applications/Utilities)?

It should be 44100.0 Hz. If not, that's your problem.

I tried both your suggestions but still no change.

The 10.4.10 update has definitely increased my Mac's maximum sound output. It's now a lot louder than it used to be, but at the expense of killing sound in my browser 😟

I'd try downloading and installing the 10.4.10 combo update. Hopefully that will fix whatever got florfed before.

Make sure you check your disk for directory errors with Disk Utility before installing.

Thanks for your suggestion Alex! I was able to fix the sound problem that Rick had with his browsers not having sounds.

Hi Rick, Welcome to Apple's Users Help Users Forums.

Since you only have 7 posts, maybe it would be worth your time to read the bottom of Apple's email alerts or Terms of use to the right re stars and points. None for me thanks I wasn't a helper or solver.
