I totally agree. I have been waiting now 12 hours as well. I don't believe the things about the servers and overcrowding simply because it took all of one minute to DEACTIVATE my current cell phone, like so many others, so I am phoneless now, so if it were just a matter of overcrowding why so fast on taking our phones down but not getting us up again on the iPhone? Like so many here I am a current AT&T customer, keeping my number, so there should be no need for delay, credit problems or whatever, just a smoother transfer. This is truly very discouraging. What I don't understand is why others on this Board report getting things up and running in minutes? I have read dozens of messages on this and I can not figure out any pattern, regional, either with or not with AT&T, or whatever other variables.

If anyone has any word on this other than repeating how long they are waiting it would be good to have some light rather than more heat...

I took my iPhone off of the dock and the iTunes store said my activation had expired. Then I put the iPhone back on the dock and this message returned on iTunes - "your activation requires additional time to complete. you will receive an email confirmation..." So taking the iPhone off of the dock did nothing for me.

I am in Longwood, Florida and have been waiting 11 hours now for activation! Misery! Existing customer... I have no phone!

13 hours and still waiting. I'm an existing AT&T customer, keeping my old phone number. My old cell phone was deactivated immediately, and now I have no working phone, just like everyone else.

Does anyone happen to have the activation support phone number?

Tried putting the iPhone SIM in my old phone. It showed up "AT&T" like it was working. Pulled it out & put it back in my iPhone - same story as before

I do think that they didn't think out the problem of
"what if someone is swapping their old phone for an
iPhone, and their old phone deactivates but the
iPhone doesn't activate". I mean there's no way
both phones can be active at the same time, but,
maybe they shouldn't have allowed that as an online
option. Many people are in the same boat as you, a
cell is their lifeline (for better or for worse) and
    they are now stuck.

Agreed. I don't like having my cell phone on 24 hours a day, and calls at 2 and 3 AM get old fast, but it's part of what I do for a living, so I just grin and bear it. That being said, without a cell phone over the weekend means that I can't leave the house. I am so incredibly frustrated right now, and there's NOTHING I can do about it. That, of course, just makes it worse.

I'm getting the same "Your Activation Requires Additional Time to Complete" message in iTunes after trying to migrate from Tmobile.

I tried activating sometime after midnight Eastern, and at 12:32 am, I got an email that says:

Phone service is scheduled to be disconnected on your current phone at or after 12:32 AM EDT on July 01. Please check your email and be prepared to reconnect and activate your iPhone before that time. Please call 877-800-3701 if you'd like to make other arrangements.

So that puts me at 8.5 hours of having a useless iPhone.

The only problem with this is that this whole activation disaster appears to be hit or miss. There is no method to this madness at all. Some people are getting activated immediately, no matter what time they try, and some people are still waiting 12 hours later. Turning off the old phone appears to be the same, as your was off almost immediately, while mine was still working at 1 AM EST. Of course, sometime early this morning my old phone was disabled by AT&T.

    Wonderful...

After initializing the activation process at about 8:30 PM EST last night. I went to bed at 1 am tired of waiting. My iPhone was activated by the time I woke up. The e-mail I received was sent at 4:22 am.

I just can't believe that they can't at least get someone like me, who bought and tried to activate it within the first hour of the first time zone that is was available in on. I could see if I was in California, and they had 3 other time zones of people to deal with first.
