also once you synced it to itunes they should have made it so you didn't have to sync again to fully activate if an error like this occurred. If they took the time to make the message they foresaw that this might happen.

Getting the iPhone was easy. Getting it to work,
however has been more of a Microsoft type
    experience.

    ...SNIP...

    I'm baffled. I'm annoyed. I'm feeling like I bought
an Apple product, operated by Dell.

Excellent story. Even though I am very annoyed right now, your retelling of your evening was a great read. Thanks...

It's been 12+ hours here...new ATT subscriber in Florida. I went to bed last night dreaming of an activated iPhone, only to receive an email saying that AT&T found a problem with the information I provided (switching my number from Verizon). I called the help line (haha...help) and waited patiently for 30 minutes. Finally, an operator gets on the line and asks me to hold while he checks my account. He gets back on and says he is going to put the issue into a "red ticket line". He says this will elevate my situation to VIP status (whoopee!) and MAYBE have the situation resolved within 24 hours. 24 MORE HOURS!!! I then asked the guy if I'd get an email when the activation was completed and he said, and I quote, "I don't really know, I don't have the money for an iPhone." No joke, that's what he said. Wow, AT&T is really winning my confidence as a new cell provider. 36 hours to activate a phone? Still, it's worth the wait to have the newest technology out there. But, it still feels good to rant.

Try powering your phone off then on if you are having trouble with activation. A few reports show that this did the trick!

    Good luck!

Almost 12 hours waiting and I am not even sure it's going to work? I called last night and early in the morning (2:00 am) in tring to get my new AT&T account activated since I did not have them before. Both times they told me to hang on and that over 3 million people bought the phone and tried to activate last night which caused a huge queue. I asked them if I should leave my iphone connected to my itunes overnight and they said yes, that in order to complete the activation I must leave it connected. Is this safe for the iphone? Should I continue to just leave everything on and connected for who knows how long? I bought another phone last night with my wife's but I am thinking with all the time AT&T and Apple had in getting this right, is this going to be a sign of things to come? While I am sitting here on hold with AT&T (again), I hear the hold message stating they are upgrading their Wireless Network in spending $18 million a day for "us" to make a wonderful experience. I am seriously thinking about just returning my phone because I would have to switch from t-mobile and port my number. AT&T told me that could take a few days to happen.

I am still 12+ hours and waiting - existing AT&T customer now with two smartphone paperweights (old - Treo 650, new - iPhone).

I went to the AT&T store round the corner from my apartment this morning when it opened; myself and another guy were hoping for some activation help. We were told they couldn't do anything, it said "iPhone" in the system, and they put the other guy on a call to customer service . I came home, I have a 10.30am genius bar appointment so I hope that is more useful.

It took over five hours to get a response email about my activation, and the email stated that there's a problem. I had already gone to bed angry at AT&T. Woke up, and now I've been on hold for over half an hour trying to get someone to answer the phone.

Unfortunately, this did nothing. I have turned off the iPhone many times, undocked it and docked it again and again. Nothing. Multiple phone calls to both AT&T and Apple has resulted in nothing.

There appears to be a theme here... nothing works.

I wanted to join the list...

Waited 6 hours in the sun for this thing and all I have is a paperweight that calls 911.

I'm a current AT&T customer porting my number from my old phone to the new one. My old phone went dead about 30 minutes atfer the request and I've had no iphone, nor cell phone for over 14 hours.

    Thank you Apple and AT&T.

Oh goodie! I finally got an email from AT&T, but it wasn't the one I wanted... This one says:

We're sorry. AT&T has identified a problem with the information you provided.

Thankfully I'm on the phone with the person the new email instructed me to call.

    Hey all..

My iPhone saga began with the purchase of (2) 8g phones. I was out of the ATT door by 6:15pm Eastern, and activating by 6:30pm.

My first phone was up and running in less than 10 minutes! LOVE IT!!

My second is still in the cradle waiting for the "email" that will bring it to life.. HATE IT!!

For what its worth, you will be floored!

....if and when we all get the email!

Has anyone received the email this morning?
