FWIW, I ported my number from verizon, but didn't have problems with that. We did have to call AT&T and get a Family Plan enacted because my DH was previously on an individual plan. That took only a few minutes and the rep was very nice. I know that it has to be very frustrating to have to wait, but everybody involved is new at this. Believe me, it will be worth the wait! I was probably among the first people to activate, because I had my phone and was activating it at 6:20 pm EST, so I'm guessing that the servers and such weren't mucked up yet.

Don't say that. You're just inviting that reality.
    Haven't you watched "The Secret"?

The only pattern is that a very large volume of people flooded the servers at at&t and they probably couldn't handle it. Then on top of it people got impatient and started to attempt multiple activations, getting new numbers etc... Its taxing on a system, I don't care what anyone says, you cannot prepare for the inrush that was caused by that many people trying to activate at one time.

I think the ball was dropped when they made a big deal out of how easy it was going to be to activate. They should have prepared people a little better for delays.

I'm surprised that there hasn't been a public release by AT&T, although the numbers may not be as bad as it may appear on the board.

    Can you say, "iPlop".

In Mississippi. Waiting for my email for 13 hours and 45 minutes. On hold with AT&T for 40 minutes now (they say according to their information that my phone activation went through - they are showing my phone id and iPhone Data Plan - so they have forwarded my call to Apple.

12 hours since first activation start, 10+ hours since "requires additional time" message. I'm starting new service, so it's not related to number porting.

Is activation problems still occuring, Started @ 1 am CST still waiting at 9 am CST

I started activation at 12:30 am. I woke up expecting to be activated after waiting until 2:00am. 8:00am called the ATT activation center, was on hold for 1 hour. Then transferred to another rep., on hold for another hour. I was given the # to Apple direct. I have called and have now been on hold for 35 min. and counting. I feel your pain. Even more painful.... It took my wife 5 min. to activate after she got her phone yesterday at 8 pm. Bummer
    Florida.

    THINGS TO CHECK WITH ATT

    1) MAKE SURE THERE IS NO DASH BETWEEN TELEPHONE NUMBERS
    2) OLD PLANS!! MAKE SURE THEY ARE COMPATIBLE

WAITING FOR ACTIVATION BUT NEED A PHONE
TAKE OUT NEW SIM CARD FROM IPHONE/IBRICK/IPAPERWEIGHT AND PLACE IT IN THE OLD PHONE. IT SHOULD WORK..

DOES THAT MAKE THIS AN ATT PROBLEM OR APPLE?? OR BOTH...

ALMOST 13 HRS AND COUNTING. CALLED ATT FOUR TIMES ALREADY. NO EMAIL FROM ANYONE..

    Coming via ApplePhoneShow.com --

Try powering your phone off then on if you are having trouble with activation. A few reports show that this did the trick!

    Good luck!

nope that does not work. tried it about 100 times lol.

I bet AT&T are running WIndows 2003 servers and that is why they are all messed up.

Yes, I am in NYC and have been waiting for 10 1/2 hours. I received two emails from AT&T, both last night.

First email said "Phone service is scheduled to be disconnected on your current phone at or after 9:09 PM EDT on June 30. Please check your email and be prepared to reconnect and activate your iPhone before that time. Please call 877-800-3701 if you'd like to make other arrangements.

Second emails says "AT&T is now processing your activation."

I now have been on the phone with AT&T for 1hr17min and they still cannot get it to activate. They said they are having problems verifying my Verizon account #. I cannot believe it is taking this long and there is not end in sight. AT&T messed up big time here and I am not paying the $36 activation fee!

I am still on the phone with AT&T and they said that they tried to port my Verizon account # WITHOUT the -00001 portion of the account # and they think that they got it to process. Again, only the numbers BEFORE the dash. Now I JUST have to wait another 24 hours, but it could be sooner than that I am told.

This is crazy. STEVE JOBS are your reading these? You need to have AT&T compensate us for all the trouble that they have caused us! AT&T needs to give a discount or something on the first month's service for screwing up and not being prepared to activate all these iPhones.

Thats the price you have to pay for to be in the revolution of the bleeding edge iPhone... so be more adult and try to understand the there are thousands or millons try to do the activation... so be patient...

    Leone,

I'm in Los Angeles too, but I'm waiting.

Were you an existing at&t customer or a new one?
