Like so many, we waited over five hours in line to get the phone, rushed home to activate it, and received the email saying that our activation will take more time. We waited another several hours (not in line though) to find out that my AT&T plan was incompatible (Yes, I was an existing customer for years since the last time they were AT&T, but customer loyalty doesn't matter here).
After speaking to several people, I am now once again on hold to get my phone activated. I seriously doubt the decision of Apple to go with AT&T. They were caught completely off guard and are mired in antiquated forms of customer support and bureaucracy. Adding insult to injury is that I am forced to listen to how the "NEW" AT&T is so cool on a repetitive loop while on hold for what will a very long time.
Apple will suffer from this partnership and so will your loyal customers. Please do something about this.
