Hi Ryan,

First off, you will need to have Mac OS X 10.4.10 installed in order to be compatible with your iPhone. That may be the root of your issue.

Also, are you sure that you have everything required to activate an iPhone? Like an iTunes Store account set up, a working Internet connection, etc?

This article explains how to active your iPhone. Follow all of the instructions from this Knowledge Base article, and see if you have any success now:

Not having the same problem - just waiting for 12+ hours now for AT&T to activate this **** thing. $600+ for a device that I can only use to dial 911. This is a freaking joke...

Apple needs to step up and push AT&T to clean up this mess and at a minimum refund the $36 activation fee. Nowhere did I see an expectation set for a wait of 24 hours for activation. You can't even use any features on this device until it is activated.

Horrible... absolutely horrible...

Hey Ryan, same happened here, it went straight to name your iPhone and then synced all the data to the iPhone.

Actually, it's kinda cool now since now I do have an iPod (I can do everything else without the phone functionality) lol.

Was with apple iPhone support for almost half an hour and he couldn't figured it out either but he did told me someone will call me within 24 hours. I then popped out the sim card and popped it in an unlocked phone and it gave "activation error" message. Guess, the sim card is probably bad.

I TOO having to wait .... this really ***** paying $700.00 for a Paper weight!!!! WHY DID APPLE NOT ALLOW YOU TO USE THE OTHER FEATURES WHILE THE PHONE IS WAITING TO BE ACTIVATED!!!!!!!!!!! AT&T HAS ME ON HOLD NOW AGAIN .... LAST NIGHT THEIR COMPUTERS WENT DOWN SO THEY SAID NOW I AM ON HOLD FOR ALMOST AND HOUR!!!!! VERY VERY DISAPPOINTING I GUESS I SHOULD HAVE NEVER LEFT VERIZON NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THEM.

Hi Kylene 🙂

Sorry, I forgot to update the info on my profile. I have all the latest OS and iTunes. Actually, I was on the phone with apple iPhone support for almost half an hour and we couldn't figure out how to fix it. He told me that someone from the tech support will be calling me within 24 hours.

Anyway, from reading all the posts, there seems to be similar problem throughout some of the iPhone. Either it is a defective sim card or iPhone in there, who knows. Oh well... what to do.

Maybe I will just go over to at&t store where I bought it, ask for a new sim and try to activate there with my computer, so if it still didn't work, then we'll know that the iPhone itself is defective 🙂

We went to AT&T store, no reason the phone should not activate, they gave us a new sim card and this time, the phone did start over again in the activation process and we even got an email (which we didn't the first time) saying that activation was in process. It's been 12 hours now and no confirmation email yet. How long do we have to wait before going back to apple store and insisting on a new iphone? I agree this is very frustrating, especially with two different companies able to point at each other as the problem.
