No Audio with Dock connector?

I've connected my iPhone to a Jam box I have with a dock connector and also to my car adaptor that uses a dock connector. Neither will produce audio. I can pause the music and advance to the next song, but the only sound comes from the iPhone. I thought it was supposed to be a standard iPod connector?

I have an iPhone connected to my Mini Cooper using a Dice Electronics adapter that connects via the CD changer control in the trunk, and it works flawlessly. Not only do I get audio through the Mini factory stereo, but I can continue to use the steering wheel controls to change volume and skip to previous and next songs. From reading all these posts, it sounds like I got lucky.

This just continues to be very strange.

After all the restarts I did, it has changed it's behavior, but still doesn't work properly, just differently.

When plugged into the dock it came with I get nothing. No output, no recognition from the thing that it was docked at all.

When plugged into an iPod video dock (with the little plastic piece that makes it fit nice removed so that the phone will fit in it) it works. I get the "Do you want to turn on airport mode" message and then whatever I select, on or off, the audio output on the dock works! (oh and the wireless remote control works too)

When plugged into my Belkin car charger/lineout device I now get the airplane mode question, but whatever I select no audio goes out.

So the only dock it will work in currently is my old iPod video dock. Even the dock it came with doesn't manage to make line out.

Makes no sense to me yet. I think I'll call apple support later on and see if they have a suggestion. Be a shame to have to send it back in. I hope I can put the SIM card in my old phone to keep having a phone while they fix it.

The fact that the various resets have changed the behavior now makes me think that it's software anyway.

OK, I could kind of understand that my iPhone didn't play audio with my iPod portable speakers (maybe the connector pinouts had changed) when docked. But when I used the mini plug in my Lexus to hear iTunes from my iPhone and couldn't, that was a major problem! It gets worse. I plugged my Bose Quiet Comfort headphones in and guess what? Nothing. The only thing I can get to work, with noise I will say, is my earbuds...

Apple PLEASE fix this. I am impressed with everything else, except no voice commands, and want to use this like my iPod worked.

I have tried everything people have recommended in this forum to try and get my iPhone to work with my Eclipse Head Unit w/ iPod adaptor. Before I purchased my iPhone I asked one of the Apple Store employees if the iPhone would work with my headunit and he said as long as it has the adaptor, it would work(not to mention he made me feel like an idiot for asking such a tupid question:/). Anyone else out there with an Eclipse head unit who can't get there iPhone to play audio through their system? 80% of the time I use my iPod in my car, so I would like to be able to use my 650 iPhone as an iPod, which is one of its functions. Is that so much to ask?

the jack on the iphone is unique.. and useless...the Bose, any other connection that worked with the ipod does not work here.. the alternative is to use the dock that comes with it and they all work...sad that apple missed this one...i assume pretty soon will be available an adapter but that doesn t make sense.. any official words from apple on it?

my incase car/ac adapter works fine. I start the ipod function on the phone, then plug in the dock connector.

when I plug in the dock connector, the Airplane mode question comes up. I generally hit "No" and leave my functions on. My music goes through the dock connector and to the audio out port on the charger, which I have hooked up to the aux port on my car stereo. I guess I don't have a solution for people that are having problems, but if you can find this adapter around, I highly recommend it anyways, and it seems to work fine with iphone too!

hey guys,

i spoke with apple care this morning. i was disappointed by a couple of things with the ipod. the recessed headphone jack, and no audio through the dock connectors for all of us that use them in our vehicle (mine is a monster icarplay). what he stated is that they realize the dock connector is a problem and they plan to fix that with an update soon. at least thats what he said. i know there are some transmitters out there that may work with it. but from what i have read from you guys, most do not. hopefully they will get the dock connector issue fixed soon.

as for the recessed headphones? i know belkin has an adapter our there, but it is the poorest design i have ever seen. i am sure apple will issue one that will settle all of our minds. hopefully they aren't that stupid to think we all want to use the white earphones.. if anyone gets knowledge of anything else, please let us all know.

I'm running 1.1.1 and I can not listen to music using the iTrip. I've tried airport mode and following other tips from the forum with no avail. This is complete crap I hate this bs that apple is pulling OPEN UP THE IPHONE!

By the way I don't know if this this is a well known bug but I have my time set to 24 hour on my iphone and everytime I sync it to my laptop, it resets to 12h.

I have the circular apple speakers. At first i didnt think that my iphone would work off of it because when i put it in the speakers it said that the iphone was not meant for this device and asked if i wanted to change it to the airplane mode.... i said no tada! and my phone plays off the speakers! when i get calls it just makes that weird noise any phone does when its next to speakers...but it works!
