Address Book Sync Probs

I have spent the last 5 hours trying to sync my Address Book with my iPhone. I bought the phone because I though it would have easy syncing with my Mac, unlike by Blackberry, but it has so far been a waste of my time.

I have tried reinstalling the new iTunes and even restored my iPhone. I changed every setting I could find just to see if it would work. I have 155 contacts but even tried to just limit the sync with only 1 contact and it still did not work.

Please help, I am not in the mood to have to stay in another long line to try to return it!!

The Yahoo contacts sync took about an hour before I got the sync complete message. Just looked and I have no contacts. I wonder if the 16.1 MB of "Other" is all my contacts but there jsut not showing up. I've tried deleteing all the data on my iPhone but it still restores settings when I sync. Is there way to really restart your iphone and remove all data?

making changes on the Mac).

I just restored the phone and am trying again.

I finally got it all synced correctly.

doing an iphone "restore" did not help.

I don't know what actually did it but I did a .MAC sync (probably not relevant) and rebooted the computer containing the addressbook (I think this did it as the iTunes sync was acting kinda odd).

I jsut tried...
- Deleteing the itunes iPhone backup (from preferences)
- Erasing the iPhone data
- Erasing the iphone network settings
Still no luck.

The info tab for the iPhone in iTunes is showing 3 contact folders that don't even exist anymore in my AddressBook. It's as if it's got it's own cache and I can't reset it.

Anyone have any ideas of what to try next?

I had this as well. I rebooted the computer, ran the .MAC sync and then it showed up properly in iTunes. I don't really think the .MAC part is needed but that is what I did.

I have just one group selected to sync but Alll Contacts shows up. I tried erasing all contents on iphone but when it restored all contacts was still there in addition to just the group i wanted. yep, it DOES seem like it has it's own cache and you can't reset it.

prpbably a bug. but if anyone's got an idea let us know!

I finally got my contacts to sync. To get things working again I had to sync to my .mac account from address book.

In my case, something was wrong with my address book. The first time I synced to my .MAC account all my contacts were deleted. I restored them and synced agin now my iPhone has no problem. I think my problem was related to a 3rd party app called AddressX that I use to sync my works outlook server contacts.

So I took my iPhone to an Apple store and they did not know why my phone whould sync my address book. They tested the iPhone on another computer and it worked fine, meaning that the problem was with my computer. They could not "fix" the problem so they just reinstalled the OS and my phone was able to sync. I had all of my stuff backed up, so it was no big problem.

Please clarify, because I'm having the same problem.

At first, everything synced fine. But on subsequent syncs, neither Address Book nor Mail will sync, so I'm left with zero contacts in the iPhone, and no email showing up. It all worked the first time, but not subsequent times.

When you say THEY reinstalled the OS, I take it you mean you had a laptop which you also took into the store? I'd hate to think of reinstalling the OS on my desktop at home, because it would take many hours to reinstall all my other software after doing that. Are you saying that might be the only way to fix this bug? Any other thoughts on how to get my Mail and Address Book to sync?

I too have tried everything others have suggested, short of reinstalling my OS on the computer (imagine having to do that every time we sync!).

Advice?

I am having this identical situation. I reset my sync to .Mac, over-riding from the computer > .Mac. This operation succeeded, but iTunes 7.3 still shows address book groups and iCal calendars that have long since been deleted, and any attempt to sync Contacts causes a process called SyncServer to gobble up all available processor power, revving up the fan on my PowerBook G4 (1.67 GHz, OS 10.4.10) to full speed. This continues even if I cancel the sync on the phone and/or in iTunes; until I open Activity Viewer and force-quit SyncServer.

I am considering bringing my 'Book and 'Phone to the Genius Bar for advanced assistance, though I suspect a iTunes 7.3.1 will be required to fix this....
