Some smart playlists not working correctly

I have the exact problem, I only have 'top 25', but on my iphone it's just random songs. I created another just to make sure and sure enough that didn't work either, it's a bug, and I hope Apple fixes this soon as smart playlists are used by a lot of people.

I am having the exact same issue, and I've tried reseting, and reloading the iPhone, but it hasn't been cleared up. It actually seems like all of my smart playlists are affected. Examples.

Recently Added - Usually shows 100 most recent songs added to iTunes. Works great on my iPod and in iTunes, but on the iPhone the display appears to just display the first 100 songs in alphabetical order that are on the iPhone.

Top 100 played - Exact same situation as above. I am guessing that the smart playlists are just pulling songs alphabetically and if you have a restriction on the # of songs it will stop at that point.

I find it hard to believe that this was not caught earlier by Apple. The synch does however pull the songs from this playlist and puts them on the iPhone, it just doesn't correctly place them in the correct location. Has anyone gotten their smart playlists to work correctly?

agreed. i'm having the same problem, and am also surprised by it.

DOESN'T WORK:

"Top 25" - should be easy. all the songs that the iPhone needs for this smart playlist are, yes, synced to the iPhone. but it picks a set of songs that have nothing in common as far as i can see (they have different ratings and add dates and so on).


WORK CORRECTLY:

"80s/Good" - an alphabetical list of songs with the genre "80s". this works and appears in the right order.

"New" - shows new additions to iTunes, sorted by date added. works correctly.


WEIRDEST:

"Forgotten/Best" - is a playlist for showing 5-star songs not played recently. has always worked on iTunes. oddly, on the iPhone, the song list is actually the song list for the "Top 25" ?!?!!? i mean, it -is- the Top 25 playlist, but with the wrong name somehow. it's very confusing.

Same problem here with my "Top 25 Most Played".

What's even more odd is that when my iPhone is docked and I expand it in iTunes and click on the "Top 25 Most Played" playlist, it shows the 25 songs that should be there.

But when I select that playlist on the iPod, the 25 songs that are there aren't what's supposed to be there.

It seems to be reversing the order on the iPhone. I have a playlist of the 12 most recently purchased songs that I had to "reverse" to the 12 LEAST recently purchased.

For the "100 Most Played" you might try switching it to the "100 Least Played." I'm not sure what that would do if you have several songs with playcount 0, but give it a try.

That makes some sense as the stuff on my "Top 25 Most Played" list is stuff I haven't even listened to before...

Any chance that the smart playlist is showing the most played songs that are in your iPhone?

Yep. This is messed up.....on 'the worlds greatest iPod'.

Other smart playlists seem to be ok.

I have a "50 most recently added songs" and "50 most recently added great songs" smart lists... both are inverted and show 50 oldest and 50 oldest great songs on the iPhone. 😉

OMG I thought I was alone on this one. I am definatly ticked off that Apple could miss a big mistake like this! I WANT THE SOFWARE UPDATE NOW!!!!!!

Mine does the same thing. I did some troubleshooting and tied it to using the "limit" checkbox. I changed my "most played" list to just look at play counts and genres and now they work fine. Hopefully apple will fix this one soon.

I thought this was only me today. This REALLY peeves me off. They need to fix this ASAP.

Mine is doing the same thing - I even re-set all the play counts in iTunes so they'd all be at zero and it still isn't working properly.

Also, it won't let me select/play the last playlist in my list of playlists.

The more that call, the more likely this will be fixed in the first update...

From what I have been able to determine, the culprit is "Limited". If you have an SPL with no limit parameter (for example number of songs limited by date as opposed to count), the SPL works. If you limit to say 25 or 100, it seems to fail.
