Battery Fully Charged?

Has anybody's iPhone battery fully charged? How does the battery icon look when it is fully charged? Does the little lightening bolt symbol go away? I don't think my battery has ever fully charged even all night last night. I put the iPhone in the dock plugged into an electrical outlet with the power adaptor at 7 pm and check just now almost 12 hrs and it shows a full green battery icon but the lightening bolt is still in the small battery symbol??? Any ideas or experience on this???

Thanks & God Bless!

Rick

Ok, I've had the same issue as everyone else, but I found a little different solution. I help this helps everyone.

Like previously described in this thread my iPhone was not reaching 100% charge over night. It was getting close but never got the last few bits of power it needed to reach 100%. That was until I connected it to a charge in my car and suddenly I was at 100%. So I set out to figure out what might be different in those two environment... the answer was WiFi; I don't have a network in my car... yet. 🙂 So, when I got home I disable the WiFi on the iPhone and plugged it in. Sure enough I got a complete charge.

It seems that the amount of power required for the iPhone to be connected to my network is enough to keep the battery from ever reaching 100%. That's a problem since when you come in range of a WiFi network you have previously joined it seems to automatically connect for you. So, when I get home I guess I just need to make sure that the WiFi is disable on the phone if I don't need it. It would be nice to see a patch around this... but for me the WiFi seems to be the issue.

For those that are interested, I have one of the newer Airport Extreme providing the WiFi at my house. It would be interesting to see if it's an issue with that access point or if I get my old Linksys out if it also has the same issue. I'f I get motivated I'll let you know.

To verify whether or not your phone has been fully charged, make a couple calls on it and then go into Settings and check your usage. The usage is not tracked until the phone has been fully charged.

I don't recall whether or not the little lightning bolt went away when my phone was charged, but I know the big green battery didn't do anything special. It did begin tracking my usage, so I know mine hit 100% somtime overnight.

Apparently my iPhone did reach a "Full Charge" at some point! At least according to the info at the Usage page under Settings. It shows the usage etc "Since the last Full Charge". It also shows all my call time and data usage. So...who knows...but it specifically says that at some point the iPhone did reach a full charge. One thing that might be affecting the display of the "plug icon" is that the iPhone is docked but still "on", like in standby and is connected (showing the full WiFi bars) to my WiFi network. So, I suppose it is continually using power and hence can't fully charge??? Weak supposition perhaps but who know?!!!

For this issue, call the 611 support number and talk to someone about iphone. (I think the keys are 1 to confirm your cell number, 0 for other issues, then 1 for iPhone.)

Explain the issue and they will give you a Tier 2 support number and transfer you to Apple. From there, the Apple rep will likely set up an appointment at your nearest store. Bring in all of your accessories so they can determine whether its the phone or the cables.

Alternatively, you can try to schedule a Genuis apppointment directly at the store of your choosing.

Howdy, I was having the same issue with the slice. What resolved for me was turning the phone off in the cradle during the charge (by pressing the sleep button for a few seconds AFTER the phone is in the cradle). After about 30 minutes I went from almost charged to fully charged with the little plug icon rather than the lightning bolt.

Hope this works for some of you!

I've been having the "slice" problem with my iPhone too. I have gone through 2 solid 8 hour charging cycles with the AC Adapter and USB cord. The first 8 hour charge cycle was in the dock with wall adapter connected to dock. This never resulted in a full charge. Read the forums last night, tried the reset procedure someone suggested and put on 8 hour charge with USB cord directly in the iPhone (i.e. no dock usage) with the wall adapter. Got up this morning and still had the same problem - never shows a full charge and have no Usage stats whatsoever - just a dash ("-").

I called Apple this morning to report it and the very friendly tech asked if I had tried charging with my Macbook via USB, which I hadn't. She informed me that that would be the only other thing they could suggest to resolve the issue without having to have the iPhone serviced. So I am charging the iPhone on my Macbook as we speak. Also turned off all power management functions on the Macbook so it would not go into sleep mode. The tech said they needed to rule out that I don't have a bad AC Wall Charger or bad USB cable. I am now using my old iPod USB cord to see if it makes a difference.

The Apple tech is supposed to call me back in about 4 and 1/2 hours to see if this fixed it, as she said she has had iPod customers with similar problems in the past and this is how she has resolved it.

Guess I'll wait and see if this fixes it. If not, the Apple tech said I may be able to return the iPhone to the AT&T Store where I purchased it in the morning (if stocks are on hand I suppose).

I'll update here to let everyone know if this fixed the problem.

Well here's a quick update on my own personal battery issue. I just checked my iPhone which is still charging on the USB Connection to my Macbook. For the first time, the little battery icon in the top right hand corner is showing the little "plug" symbol on the battery indicating a full charge. However, when I press the home button to actually use the iphone while it is still on charge, the large battery indicator in the middle of the screen still shows only 80% full.

Can anyone tell me what the large battery indicator in the middle of the screen is supposed to look like when the iPhone is fully charged?

I'm going to keep charging the battery on the USB Connection to my iPhone and see if that makes a difference and wait for the Apple tech to call me back in about 3 hours.

When my battery is fully charged there is a big battery in the middle of the screen and it is completely green. If yours is like mine was there was a while were a little sliver wasn't full.

I went ahead and actually turned the phone off (very tough for me to do) before I went to bed last night and let it charge, turned off, while I slept. When I woke up I had the plug symbol and the big battery was entirely green, an indicator, I think, of a full charge.

I hope that helps.

I have the same problem. ALMOST charged, but not quite. And Usage indicates it's never fully charged. Tried both USB and Power Adapter methods, no difference. Contacted Apple, and they have been WONDERFUL. They are going to arrange for a replacement iPhone so they can troubleshoot this one. Tiny problem, really, and they are treating it like a major problem and ensuring customer satisfaction. I suggest anyone having this issue call Apple (sit on hold a while, but better muzak than most), and work through it with them ... they'll make sure it's resolved

I was having the same problem as everyone else and read a solution in another thread. I tried it, and for what it's worth, it worked.

I turned the phone completely off (very hard to do for me, but I did it) and let it charge while I slept. When I woke up it indicated that it was fully charged. It gave me the "plugged in" logo, instead of the lightning bolt.

I'm not sure if I'll have to do this again to get a full charge or if it's a one-time thing.

I hope that helps.

I am also having this issue, we have 2 8 GBs in the house and both seem to not be "fully" charging. Have seen the issue with my laptop going to sleep. I tried charging in the car, with the straight to plug adapter, etc. Trying the "completely off" solution right now.

Seems that battery life is a little less stunning than earlier articles led on. Obviously, everyone is playing with EVERY feature right now and that might be a leading cause of battery drain. Also, having it on the wi-fi net in my house might also be causing it to have to use power even while sitting there. Not sure?

I am a little disappointed in the design that it does not just have a light that tells you the status of the phone without having to turn it on. I was used to just looking at my phone on my desk and seeing by light color: phone is on, on network, charging, etc. Seems silly to have to turn the thing on to discover these basic things.

All this said. Impressive device!
