Poor voicemail quality

Hi - yes, I noticed that mine also sounds like a computer recording LOL I don't know if it's a problem or not... I actually had to exchange the iphone for another due to a dead pixel at the top of my screen (bright blue) and the new one was fine until I played a video on it last night and noticed a tiny blue spec in the dead middle of my screen!!! That annoyed me... I'd rather have the pixel be in the corner than in the middle...

Yes... I have the same problem. I posted this question a couple of days ago, but only one response. The voice mail playback on mine does sound "digital". I haven't had a chance to visit the Apple Store this week to find out if it's on all phones or not. I think for $600 it should sound pretty **** good.

I am having the same issue with the quality of the voicemail: it sounds very tinny and robotic. Not sure if this will be remedied if replaced?

I noticed this on some messages but not others. I wonder if depends on the quality of the handset the caller is using? My mother's phone sounds terrible, even when I'm on a landline.

Sounds awful. I emailed through the Feedback page, hopefully they will fix this ASAP.

Having exactly the same problem! "Live" calls sound just fine. Voicemails sound metallic.

As far as I can make out, poor voicemail quality is due to the aggressive compression used on the voicemail messages. Since it transfers the entire voicemail message to your phone over EDGE, they did what they could to keep the files small.

Assuming this is how it works, of course.

as the above stated, this is because voicemail is downloaded to your phone as an extremely compressed audio file. the more compression, the smaller the file, the quicker it downloads to your phone.

i for one would like the option of having a higher quality file with a slower download time, because i agree, the compression sometimes makes the voicemail inaudible 😟

mine is not completely robotic but not like a regular call either, somewhere between. Like others have said it is the compression they use (perhaps different markets have different compression amounts used on the servers?). I'd love an option to have low/medium/high quality on the phone just like they have setting your VM Pin on the phone.
