Why does my screen go black during calls?

At the top of the phone, where the speaker is in the slot. There is a sensor that senses when the phone is placed near your ear. This sensor shuts down the screen so you don't accidentally hit a key or another while on a phone call. Just remove the phone from your ear and the screen should light back up. Make sure you don't have your hand over that sensor or it may not work. 😀

the iPhone has an auto feature that senses when it is close to your face so the touch screen goes off (or black). when the phone is brought back down from your ear it should light up again automatically after a brief moment.

Also it only works in the phone application.

I have the same problem. How did you fix it?

It is not a bug, it is a feature. It goes black as you put the phone to your ear. This is to safeguard you from activiting who knows what on the phone while you are talking. If you need to add a phone call or something else, just look at it and the screen lights back up and you can add calls.
