iPhone for a 6-year-old? (need a fast response!)

I think there are two responses, now that it seems you're serious. My first is why anyone would get a six year old a phone....but secondly, this would definitely not be the phone. Get him the most basic, cheapest phone if you feel a phone is appropriate for a child.

Amen. If you are serious about a phone 9(ridulous I'm here to tell you) the cheapest thing will do. That plus an Ipod will do the trick. Buy him some stock in Apple instead.

I'd say no. The features aren't something to hold the attention span of a 6 year old and I doubt he/she would be making a lot of phone calls at that age.
It would end up not being used.

A six year old? I don't care if you are J. Paul Getty, some things just shouldn't happen - and this is one of them. Some day your "six" year old will want a car. Be sure you save up for a Bentley - you will be having to pay for one!

we all seem to agree that it isn't the smart thing to do... getting that kid a phone would most certainly be a $600 blunder... going to camp where things get stolen everyday... but it seems you are trying to justify getting it... it's your money do what you please... but don't let him get it from crying... cause that would be the case for the rest of his life... crying to you for things... I say pull out the old fashioned belt and "reach out and touch him" with it... and say... NO PHONE FOR YOU!!

Why don't you just hand him/her a Hustler magazine as well? I can't beleive you would place the unfettered internet right into your child's backpack.

Well, honestly, I don't see the need for him to have one. What I'd suggest, is getting him a (much) less expensive pay-as-you-go type of phone, if he really wants a phone and you have a serious need of keeping track of his whereabouts when he's not with you. Maybe something to sort of show him the responsible way of using a phone (not running up the bill, etc) as well as ensuring that he'll be able to take care of it properly. Apple's typical product warranty does not cover accidental damage/abuse... I doubt iPhone's warranty is any different.

One of those FireFly cell phones is way more appropriate. If you need a parenting course, there are better places to look on the internet.
