can i customize column size of windows in finder

Just wondering if I can customize the size of columns view in windows in finder

MacBook Pro 15" Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Yes —from Mac help: " Changing how items are shown in Finder windows"

To change the size of a column when in column view, drag the bottom of the column divider (where the two vertical lines appear). To change the size of all columns at once, hold down the Option key as you drag a divider.

It is more tricky to get this to stick if you close the window and try to re-open it, but you can always minimise the window rather than close it.
