Preview does not save changes?!

Preview does not save changes?!

I love the way I can easily manipulate photos using preview.
But, a strange thing occurs, here the workflow:
1) I select photos and drag them to Preview
2) I choose "Rotate" and it rotates the photo and the little red dot in the upper left corner indikates (with a circle/dot) that the file is modified (all great)
3) I press CMD+S and the file is saved (the red dot in the upper left corner indicates the file was saved)
4) I close Preview and open the file again and it is not rotated (as if Preview did not save any changes)

What am I doing wrong?!

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Hello,

You are sooooooooooo close! Do the rotate... then instead of Save, use the Save As dialog box. Quit Preview from the Menu, relaunch Preview, go to Preview/File/Open Recent and open the image you just edited. See if it saved it correctly.

Unfortunately the recent versions of Preview won't save the rotations; you do need to 'save as' but under a different file type: pdf, jpeg2000 etc will all be fine. If you need it in your original format you can then re-save it.

Alternatively you can open it in iPhoto or Photoshop and edit it there. The changes will then stay fixed.

Eh, now that's a pitty. So I guess this is a bug then. -is Apple aware of this?
I guess I will use iPhoto from now on, and I was so happy to be able to do such simple things in lightweight Preview.

I don't want to bother with "Save As.." and similar, since these take too much time. The CMD+S would be great, anything more, I can switch to iPhoto.

I wish Apple instead of introducing all these new features in 10.5, would just polish the Tiger (bugs like this, add devices for iSync etc...).

Should I report this bug elsewhere or will Apple read this?

Apple are - I remember reading an article on it a few months back but can't seem to find it. I seem to recall that they were saying Preview is not really designed for photo editing. It's unlikely Apple will trawl through these threads; I'd suggest providing feedback using the link below:

What do you mean it was not designed for photo editing, if it has quite some features for doing so?!

I agree, the Mac was designed for graphics, so what the heck is THIS all about??? People have been posting about this for over a year as far as I can see--and for this simple bug not to be fixed by now is a disgrace. Furthermore, I had this rotation/save problem several months ago, and mysteriously, it "fixed" itself! I'm totally serious! (well, maybe Onyx fixed it, but I can't get it fixed again so I don't know what is going on).

What's worse than that? IT'S B-A-C-K! Yes, just now, the weird "maybe I'll save your rotation, maybe I won't" problem has just appeared again! Sheeeeesh!
