Push email for Yahoo Business Account

Has anyone been able to get emails "pushed" using a Yahoo Business Account? I can set up a new free account with Yahoo and get it to push, but not using a Business Yahoo account.

iPhone, Windows XP

I just went to Yahoo website and set up a new account. Then go to the settings on the iphone and set up a new Yahoo account. Enter your user and password and it should work. The emails are pushed to you within a few seconds. I have found that emails with attachments take longer. Maybe a internal virus scan by Yahoo?? Not sure. Again, I can only make this work with a new account.

Dean111 - Are you able to send Yahoo Business Mail using your iPhone? I'm having an odd issue that only one other person has reported.

My other three email accounts are working fine, but my Yahoo Business account is giving me a challenge. I can receive (looks like "push is working, too), but when I send, the system only goes through the motions. There is no error message. However, messages are not reaching their destination, nor do they show up in any sent folder. All relevant settings are identical for the four accounts.

I originally tried setting up my Yahoo Business account through a sync with my computer. That configuration didn't allow me to send, but I did receive an error message. After playing with the outgoing server config, I still couldn't get send to work. I finally deleted the original Yahoo account and added it back, using the Yahoo selection on the iPhone. Now it looks as if messages are being sent, but they aren't. Yahoo says it is a service provider problem. AT&T says it is an Apple issue. I'm headed to the Apple store tomorrow, if I can't resolve it. Any advise?

Toyland,

I can send and receive emails with a Yahoo Bus Account. I just can't get the emails to Push. The unit checks the server every 15, 30 or 60 minutes depending on the setting. Try checking you outgoing mail server setting. Use smtp.bizmail.yahoo.com for the outgoing. Make sure it does not have the 25 port setting. You need to go into the advance setting and check network authentication with password.

I am not able to get anwhere with the Yahoo Bus support or apple. Everyone blames the other and none can explain why you can't get Push email with a Yahoo Bus account.

SVegas - Yes, I'm using a Yahoo Small Business account. That's the only one where I'm experiencing the odd issue. My other pop3 account (not Yahoo!) is working, fine. I can receive Yahoo Small Business mail. I even think "push" is working when on wireless. However, when sending, it looks and sounds as if I'm sending successfully, but the messages go into neverneverland. They do not show up in any sent folders, nor do they reach their destination. I'll post tomorrow, if I make any progress.

I spent a good bit of time on the phone with Yahoo and trying just about every work around you could think of. Here's what I posted in another thread (I hope it helps)...

Push works on @yahoo accounts, but not yahoo accounts that are @yourbusinessneame.com. The yahoo accounts support IMAP, the Yahoo Small Business accounts only support POP, hence the pull, instead of push. (And from what I've read, IMAP isn't even a "real" push...whatever that means).

More simply put, this is not a Blackberry. If you want instant e-mail, you're not going to get it. Even the push for @yahoo.com e-mail addresses isn't as fast as on a blackberry. The folks I talked to at Yahoo said that RIM monitors Yahoo's mail servers independently to make sure you get the instant "push". They said that's not the case with iPhone and Yahoo - it's just IMAP.

If you have IMAP or an IMAP enabled exchange server it seems you can get a better than "every 15 minutes" e-mail solution. However, it probably won't be instantaneous.

As for forwarding to your @yahoo account, I've tried it a few times and haven't had luck with it.

There were times I got almost instant push from @yahoo.com accounts. However, I'm thinking it was luck. I tested it repeatedly and there was no consistency to the speed.

To save you some time, here are some failed work arounds I tried:

I thought maybe I should just run everything through my @yahoo account. I went and paid the $20 to sign up for mail plus so I could send from all my accounts from @yahoo (even though I pay for the two other accounts; though I should get this back).

In any case, from there I thought I'd set the @yahoo account up to check those two accounts. That didn't lead to a "push" effect because it was way too slow. It wasn't any better than just checking every 15 minutes.

For the second alternative I thought I'd forward my other Yahoo accounts to my @yahoo account. That too was a flop. It didn't work any faster.

There's also been some talk about using .Mac for your push technology.

I spent about 30 minutes or so checking that out. As a caveat, I was doing it with a trial account, not a full one. I've tested the push speed with an e-mail sent straight to the .Mac e-mail address and to another account checked by .Mac. In each case, no dice. The push isn't "Blackberry" speed.

I did have a few times where it'll be almost instant. However, this brings to mind the old line from college that "correlation isn't causation." I think sometimes it just happens quickly, it's not an actual push.

Long story short, for the casual e-mail user this is a great phone with a good e-mail solution. However, if you need instant e-mail like you're used to on a Blackberry (journalist, politico, overworked-lawyer, etc.,) you might not be pleased.

If I'm wrong, please correct me. (I'd love to be wrong and find a Blackberry-like push).

UTF,

Great information. I also talked to Yahoo and got the same information. Push email with Iphone/Yahoo only works with accounts like @yahoo.com and not @yourbusiness.com accounts that are hosted by Yahoo as part of there small business package. I not sure why they would not offer this service as the accounts cost $20/month. I have tried all the work arounds discussed and came to the same conclusions. It seems that you should be able to go into your "business" yahoo account settings and have your emails forwarded to your "free" account which would be then be pushed to iPhone. For some reason this does not work. Even if it worked, you would still have the problem when sending emails your address would show @yahoo.com and not your preferred @yourbusiness.com.

I love the phone, but the Push Email has problems. I really like to get emails immediately. In addition, I think it waste the Iphone's battery checking the server every 15,30 or 60 minutes.

Very helpful information, UTF and Dean111. Thanks. Im disappointed, but can live without "push". Now if I can only figure out what the heck is happening with my outbound @mybusinessname.com mail, I'll be in good shape. Yahoo has been of no help. iPhone "sends", but mail isn't saved and never reaches its destination. Can either of you share your outbound configurations with me?
