Runtime Error

Runtime Error

When I try to access iTunes, I get a Runtime Error message: "Application has requested Runtime to terminate in an unusual way." Message is headed "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library."

I've tried flushing DNS and everything elese I could find suggested, but nothing works.

Please advise.

Windows XP

I just had this error, go to itunes and download the newest version of itunes, then install it. you will keep all your songs and the error will be fixed.

go to downloads on the itunes website to find the itunes verion.

Hi everyone. This seems to a a problem with the Apple Updater program. If you rename file C:\Program Files\Apple Software Update\SoftwareUpdate.exe to say C:\Program Files\Apple Software Update\__SoftwareUpdate.exe or any thing else the problem seems to go away. Then after iTunes has started you can close iTunes, and return the file to its original name and everything works fine.

When I went to Start -->Programs --->Apple Software updater and ran the updates it fixed mine.
When I fixed someone elses the other day, that didn't work. I had to uninstall then go to the itunes website and redownload and install. That fixed it.
This will not interfere with your library unless you delete the music folder on your hard drive.

I just tried the last suggestion listed, where you rename the update file. And it worked. Go figure.

I swear, sometimes I think Apple does these things on purpose for Windows users just out of spite. I have had nothing but trouble with iTunes for years, and I cringe every time I get notice of another update. But I have an iPod, so what choice do I have?

I read another post in this forum that suggested removing the Apple software update program. I went to Add/remove programs in Win XP and iTunes opened right up after the program was removed.

Instead of removing the update program, I recommend manually grabbing the new iTunes release manually...

The presence of newly release iTunes 7.3.1 appears to be tripping v7.3 as it checks for new releases.

You can resolve this by running "Apple Software Update" (should be in your Start menu) and letting it download the new 7.3.1 version.

If that doesn't work, go to http://www.apple.com/itunes/download and install the new iTunes release from there.

this worked very well for me i also didnt want to update to 7.3 because when i did it wouldnt let me back up to cd or dvd.if this happens you can got to www.oldapps.com and get an older verson of itunes
